Welcome Learners! The course Introduction to World
Religions and Belief systems will help you comprehensively
learn not only about the fundamental teachings and ritualistic
practices but also the historical background, geographical
context, and cultural milieu of the profound Asian religions.

For your guidance in the course, the General description,


content standard, Class policies, and performance tasks will
be presented to you in the next pages.
General Descriptions
The course explores the main tenets and practices of major
world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism,
Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana
Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and Shintoism. It aims to help
learners understand the historical contexts of nine religions,
appreciate their uniqueness and similarities and
promote mutual understanding among believers of different
faiths. They are expected to demonstrate understanding and
appreciation of one’s faith and that of others.

You are tasked to make a Narrative report on the religions Hinduism, Theravada
and Mahayana Buddhism

● Tenets and practices
● Comparative analysis between the three major religions
Performance Task
Fourth Quarter:
You are about to attend an international conference of inter-religious dialogue
organized by United Nations. Your group is tasked to be the speakers representing
an Indigenous sect (e.g. INC) in the Philippines. The purpose of your assignment as
a speaker for your sect is to present concrete evidences through a creative
presentation convincing the participants coming from different parts of the world
practicing different religions that religion is not a reason for division but instead
solidarity and unity among different races and walks of life. Your conviction for the
presentation will be based on the comprehensiveness, logic, depth of insight and
manner of presentation.
