Types of Shelter

Through Stages of
Life Assignment
Home and Housing - Lizzie Shannon
01
Case Study #1
Jana and Ahmed a soon to be newly wed
couple, looking for a temporary home for
two.
Case Study #1 - Jana and Ahmed
The shelter I chose for Jana and Ahmed
is an apartment in Toronto. I find this is
the best option for them because it
saves them money and since this is
only a temporary shelter, there is no
point in them trying to invest in a home
just yet. This shelter also only provides
one bed and bath which is perfect for
their situation and don’t need to worry
about the extra room.I think they will
be very happy with this choice because
it is close to the city and gives them
freedom.
Extra benefits for choosing an apartment for Jana and Ahmed:

● close to their work

● close to entertainment
● cheaper and not costly
● gives them freedom
● lets them explore their likes and dislikes

Case Study #2

Mr. and Mrs. Jaggan, an elderly couple

who are wanting to downside and stay
close to young people. Mrs. Jaggan also
has income coming in from her plant
store.
Case Study #2 - Mr. and Mrs. Jaggan

The shelter I chose for this couple is a

townhome. A small two story home that keeps
them close to entertainment and gives them still
some space, but not too much. A townhome is a
great space for this couple and gives them still
the independence they enjoy.
Extra benefits for choosing a townhouse for Mr. and Mrs.
Jaggan

● close to entertainment and most of the young

population
● gives them smaller room, but still enough storage
● gives them that independence they enjoy
● close to locations that are important for them (plant
store, grocery store, mall etc,.)

Case Study #3

Breanna, a single mom who works full

time with two loving and active sons
who want to be close to a arena and their
school.
Case Study #3 - Breanna and her two
sons
For breanna’s situation, she needs a
home that has enough space for her
boys but is also in her price range and
is close to arenas and schools. A
urban area bungalow is perfect for
them as it is not too costly, close to
schools and not too far from urban
areas.
Benefits of the cheap bungalow
Extra benefits for choosing a cheap bungalow for Breanna and her two sons:

● in her price range

● close to schools for her sons
● close to urban areas, such as arenas and grocery stores
● large landscape for her sons to hang out
● better storage and more rooms
● privacy and security

child soon, they want to buy a home as an
investment. They need lots of storage and
area for recreation.
Case Study #4 - Fionna and Darren
For Fionna and Darren, They have money to
spend and want to buy a home as an
investment. They need space for their soon to
be newborn and want space for outdoor
activities. A two story home is perfect for their
starter family and a great investment for the
future. This home will give them everything
they ever wanted and more, and create a
wonderful family home.
Extra benefits for choosing a two story home for
Fionna and Darren:

● lots of room and storage

● great home for future children and growing
family
● future investment
● large property
● can change whatever they want about it at
anytime

Case Study #5
Dylan, a student at durham college. He
has a scholarship that will pay a limited
amount to help with housing expenses. He
doesn’t want to live on campus and loves
his privacy and needs to be close to
transportation.
For Dylan, I think a one bedroom
townhouse would be good for him. Since
he has a disability an apartment would be
too difficult to go to everyday. A
townhouse that can fit in his price range,
would be perfect for him. Most townhouses
are close to transportation and urban areas
which is important for him, and also gives
him his independence and privacy he
enjoys.
Extra benefits for choosing a 1 bedroom townhouse for Dylan:

● privacy
● close to transportation
● easy to get to
● lots of space
● a room for him to study without interruptions
