Major Principles: Rhythm, rhythm
Major Elements: Color, Form
Explain: The red and black imitates
the colors used in ancient Greco- Roman pottery, which is assisted by the similar form of the pieces to Greek and Roman pottery, especially the shorter piece which is reminiscent of a Greek, “skyphos,” a type of ancient Greek wine cup. The arch and wave shapes on the pieces also seek to drive the eyes around the piece, which helps the piece be pleasing to the viewer’s eyes. Bas Relief
Major Principles: Balance, unity,
movement Major Elements: Color, Texture, Line, Form
Explain: The piece uses purple, blue,
and green, which are all analogous colors, as well as then yellow, which is complementary to purple, creating contrast. The piece has many textures, with the smooth edges of the X lines to the rough cutouts in the frame. Said X lines allow the eyes to flow across the piece, allowing for a balanced and beautiful piece. Personal Container Slab Vessel Major Principles: Balance, emphasis Major Elements:Texture, form, space
Explain: The rougher texture of the
circle surrounding the S is contrastred by the smooth walls of the pot, and the S is printed on both sides of the pot, allowing it to exhibit symmetrical balance. The space around the S emblems also draws the eye to the two S’s, which are the focal points. Coiled Vessel Major Principles: Emphasis, Movement, Major Elements: form, line
Explain: The shape of the vessel and
the coils draws the eye up, which eventually reaches the top, which is the focal point of the piece. The lines of the top serve to highlight and emphasize the opening as well.
