WHAT IS WATER?
Water is colorlees, transparent liquid made up
of two hydrogen atoms and one of oxygen
and is the basis of the fluids of living
organisms.
CHARACTERISTICS OF
WATER
• Water is polar. Water molecules are polar, with partial positive charges
on the hydrogens, a partial negative charge on the oxygen, and a bent
overall structure.

• Water is an excellent solvent. Water has the unique ability to dissolve

many polar and ionic substances.

• Water is less dense as a solid than as a liquid. As water freezes, the

molecules form a crystalline structure that spaces the molecules further
apart than in liquid water.

• Water has high heat capacity.

• Water has cohesive and adhesive properties.

TYPES OF WATER
potable non-potable
Potable water, also known as drinking water, Water from natural sources or unpotable water is
comes from surface and ground sources and is made of microorganisms, bacteria, toxic
treated to levels that meet state and federal chemicals, viruses and fecal matter.
standards for consumption.

Examples :drinking fountains like: rivers, Examples:Ocean water, polluted water

streams, lakes, reservoirs, springs, and ground
water
BENEFITS OF WATER
In humans, it acts as both a solvent and a delivery
mechanism, dissolving essential vitamins and
nutrients from food and delivering them to cells.
Our bodies also use water to flush out toxins,
regulate body temperature and aid our metabolism.
