INTRODUCTION
 Blessing: ’’Something that is good or helpful’’ Oxford dictionary
 Evil: ‘Having a harmful effect on people’ Oxford dictionary

 Europe & Africa are two neighboring continents. Interconnected

 They are closely du to the colonial history they share Relationship

 Clear evidence: Europe is more developed than Africa which remains the poorest continent.

Is Africa lucky to have this rich neighbour or is it an evil for it?

Our work will try to give an answer to that question.

I-NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF EUROPE ON AFRICA
 Impossible to understand the negative impacts of Europe on Africa without going back
through the past.
 Africa have been mostly colonized by Europe Huge damages for Africa:

-Exploitation of our resources ( gold, diamonds, oil, coltan, uranium…)

-Partition of Africa like a cake (Berlin conference).
-Slavery with the deportation of many people separated from their relatives
-European culture was imposed to Africans. This led to the loss of their own culture.
-Some traditional political institutions were destroyed and replaced by foreign ones.
All those things occured in the past but their consequences still feel
and also have prepared the undevelopment of Africa.
I-NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF EUROPE ON AFRICA
Nowadays the situation has not changed a lot. Europe continue to have negative impacts on
Africa. The process remains the same but it’s only just the method which has changed:
 Abusive exploitation of Africa resources by keeping at the head of African countries
someone they can always control and does what they want.
 Europe still stay in Africa and does not want to leave it. Independance is just an illusion.
Huge militaries bases still remains in order to well control Africa.
 The deportation continue but under another form. Europe keep for it all African smart
people.
 Europe wants to introduce and make us accept their culture althought that might be
opposite to African values. Example LGBT community.

We must recognize that all was not/is not bad in the relationship between Africa and
Europe.
II-POSITIVE IMPACTS OF EUROPE ON AFRICA

 Education.

 Medical care, better methods of sanitation improve the state of living

 Infrastructure.

 New farming methods increase food production.

 Christian religion Take away the need of sacrifices and some bad rituals, taught some good
values like peace, tolerance.
II-POSITIVE IMPACTS OF EUROPE ON AFRICA

 Africa learn from Europe in terms of new technology in order to use them to develop itself.

 Europe is a big potential market for Africa and trade is facilitated by the language, the
geographycal proximity and also by the historical context.
CONCLUSION

 At the end of our expose we could say that Europe is not a blessing for the continent of Africa
because of many negative impacts Africa had to suffer and still continue to suffer du to the fact
of Europe.
 Beside that we cannot also say that Europe is an Evil for Africa because there are some positive
aspects from Europe that Africa has benefited and still continue to benefit.
 Africa and Europe have to work together in an equal partnership 50/50, based on mutual respect.
 Africa needs Europe, Europe needs Africa. They need each other.
