A lever is a simple machine consisting of a
beam or rigid rod pivoted at a fixed hinge, or
fulcrum, used to transfer a force to a load and
usually to provide a mechanical advantage.

LEVER
Based on the locations of fulcrum, load, and
effort, the lever is divided into three types:
1. First-class lever
2. Second-class lever
TYPES OF 3. Third-class lever
LEVER
 This is a type of lever which has the fulcrum in
between the weight and the force applied.
 It is best for balance
 Some examples of 1st class lever are:
FIRST-CLASS  See-Saw
LEVER  Crowbar
 Scissors
 In a second class lever, the load is located
between the effort and the fulcrum.
 It is best for power.
  Some examples of second-class levers are:
SECOND- 1. Wheelbarrow
CLASS LEVER 2. Bottle opener
3. An oar
 In a third class lever, the effort is located between
the load and the fulcrum.
 It is best for Range of motion.
 The majority of muscles in the body are third class
levers.
THIRD-CLASS  Some examples of third class levers are:
LEVER
1. A pair of tweezers
2. Swinging a baseball
bat.
An example of 1st Class lever in human body is
the Atlanto-Occipital Joint (Axis) in which the
weight of the Head (Resistance) is balanced by
the neck extensor muscles (Force)

LEVER IN
HUMAN BODY
 A person standing on the ball of the Feet is an
example of 2nd class lever. Where the ball of the
foot acts as the fulcrum, the weight of the body
acts as the load, and the effort comes from the
2ND CLASS contraction of the muscle of lower leg.

HUMAN BODY
 The elbow and the biceps brachii work together
to move loads held with the hand, with the
forearm acting as the beam.
