Performing Computer

Operation
• A Computer System is
more than just a
Computer. It is a
combination of
“components working
together to perform a
specific task”.
•HARDWARE –
•It refers to the physical
components that make
up a device or
electronic machine, and
everything else that is
physically visible. Here
are the common
hardware tools used in
the computer system.
Hardware Components
•System Unit –
• Known as chassis, a
box-like case that
contains the computer's
electronic components
such as motherboard,
power supply,
connector, various
drives, and fan.
• Motherboard
• The motherboard (MoBo,
Mainboard) is consists of
numerous components. It is
also the computer's main
backbone of
communication, in which
all components and external
peripherals connect to run
the system.
• CPU - Known as the central processing unit, which is
referred to as the computer's brain. It manages all
instructions and programs running on the computer,
from hardware to software.
Power Supply Unit
• It is an integral part of the computer that regulates the
voltage to an adequate amount and converts the current
from AC to DC required by the computer and it will
allow the computer to run smoothly without
overheating.
Hard Disk Drives
• A non-volatile device for computer storage consists of
high speed rotating magnetic disks. Referred to as
secondary devices that permanently store data, even if
the computer is turned off.
• Primary storage (internal storage, main memory,
or memory) is the working storage space of the
computer that contains data, processing
instructions and processed data (information)
waiting for secondary storage. There are two
types of memory: ROM (Read Only Memory)
ROM and RAM (Random Access Memory).
• RAM is a type of volatile memory. Data in RAM is not
permanently written. When you power off your
computer the data stored in RAM is deleted.
• ROM is a type of non- volatile memory. Data in
ROM is permanently written and is not erased
when you power off your computer.
• Software is the
collection of
instructions (also
known as a program)
that direct the
hardware for
successful operations.
System Software-
• Any software required to support the production or
execution of application programs, but which is not
specific to any application. Common operating
systems include Windows, the Macintosh OS, OS/2
and UNIX
Application Software-
• Designed to assist the user in performing single or multiple
tasks. The following are some examples of application
software are word processing software, spreadsheet software,
database management software, graphic software, etc.
Computer Programs

• The term Program refers to Software that is a

series of instructions or code written in a
computer program to perform a function or
process. Within a computer, programs play a
critical role because it is an end-user software
that allows users to do certain things in a system.
Common programs are the following:
• MS Word and Word Perfect are both common word
processors. It works as an electronic typewriter, and
more. The user can easily generate quality documents
like memos and reports using word processors.
• These help to gather a structured data set that can be
controlled and managed later. Examples of this
program are MS Access and Oracle SQL.
• These are programs which enable users to build
electronic report presentation and other functions.
Examples of this program are keynote, google slides
and MS PowerPoint
• It helps the user to create page makeups and make
quick typesetting to generate various items, such as
brochures, papers, and booklets. MS Publisher, and
PageMaker are examples of DTP apps.
• The computer is composed of different hardware
and software which function as one. Today,
Social Media also uses different software in
disseminating information against the pandemic.
As a learner, how can you help your friends and
relatives to be safe against the pandemic, using
social media?
• C. Peopleware or Liveware is simply the user of a computer.
Before a computer actually works, it requires the computer
user to push of a switch button, a press on a key or a click on
a button. This makes the computer user an important part of a
computer system.
• Students, Parent, Teachers, Accountant, Engineer, Doctor and
other professional who uses computer are considered as
Peopleware.
Graphics Software
• These allow graphs, pictures, objects, and pictures to
be generated and manipulated. Some. Graphics
programs/software are Gimp, Photoshop, CorelDraw,
and CAD (Computer Aided Design)
Educational Software
• These include videos and online lessons that
provide students with information or training in a
subject or skill, such as math or science or
gardening or cooking.
Computer Games

•These are programs which simulate real

games or give users entertainment and
adventure.
Network Software

• These are programs which enable computers

to connect in different areas, allowing their
users to communicate with each other.
Language Software
• These provide the programmers with the tools
they need to write programs and computer
instructions. These can be Open English and
Duolingo.
• When exploring the computer, it is good to know
and identify the parts of its desktop screen.
Understanding the desktop screen can help the
user navigate/ access specific files or programs
needed to perform a task.
What is desktop screen?

• Icons are small images representing files,
directories, programs, and other items.
• Files is the common storage unit in a compute
• Folder- The purpose of a digital folder is the
same as a physical folder to store document.
• Recycle Bin- Temporary storage of deleted files.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
AND SAFETY POLICIES
AND PROCEDURES
• Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy-
Students of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) should know how to behave while
employed in the computer laboratory, as well as
enforce a secure way to execute all tasks. Security
standards should be taught early and adheres to any
electrical and electronic product, including personal
computers and their peripherals.
Personal Safety While Working with PC’s
• Computer hardware can be unsafe and if you don't
meet proper safety instructions while dealing with
PC's, you or others can be injured or even killed. Some
precautionary steps to be taken before operating with
any electronic system are as follows:
1. To help reduce the risk of being shocked or
seriously injured in an electrical incident, wear
shoes with non-conductive rubber soles.
2. Do not work on components that are plugged
into their power source
3. Do not remove expansion cards from a
computer when it is turned on.
4. Remove jewelries when working inside any
computer related equipment.
5. Be sure not to mix electronic components and
water
Direction: Read the situation given below to perform
the necessary task and answer the given questions.
• You are a student who is interested in understanding the
computer system that’s why your teacher ask you to watch a
video clip about components of a computer system by
providing the URL. with this, you need to navigate and
access the internet to watch the video clip and answer the
given questions. After watching and answering the questions,
your performance will be evaluated by your teacher with the
following standards: Answering the questions correctly and
documentation of your performance.
• After watching the videos, answer the following
questions:
• 1. What application program did you used to
navigate/access the video clip?
• 2. What are the components discussed in the videos?
• 3. How does computer help you as a student?
