What are Adjectives?

 Describing words which tell us more about people, animals, places and things.

E.g. Old man

People

Colourful birds

Animals

Beautiful city

Comparative Adjectives

 Used to compare two different things


 Add –er (2 syllables)
Older, heavier

 Add more (3 or more syllables)


More beautiful

 Than after the comparative adjective

E.g. The mouse is smaller than the elephant.


Superlative Adjectives

 Used to compare 3 or more different things


 Add –est (2 syllables)
Oldest, heaviest

 Add most (3 or more syllables)


Most beautiful

 The before the superlative adjectives

E.g. Dad is the oldest in my family.


Notes

 If the adjective ends with y, the y is changed into i before adding er or est.
