BASIC METHOD
 Fill each receptacle in 3 equal layers by
volume
25 TIMES ONLY
 Rod each layer
 Do not strike the bottom of the container
10-15 TIMES ONLY
 Tap the side of the container
 For the 2nd and 3rd layer, penetrate at least 1

in. (25 mm)


 Strike off by strike off plate or a strike off bar

EXEMPTIONS
 Do not tap the slump apparatus when
performing slump test
 Beams are filled in 2 equal layers
 Tap lightweight gauge cylinders by hand
 Shorter tamping rod may be used for the

pressure and roller meter


 Rod use in pressure meter should be at least

16 in. [400]
 Rod use in pressure meter should be at least

12 in. [300]
