Hospital Offensive
Resulted in improvements in

Brown Pride,
Student Walkouts,
and Political Power
Brown Pride (Chicano Movement)

● The term Chicano rose to prominence as the 60's as an alternative


term for "Mexican-American". The term implied a pride in native
Mexican heritage and being "non-white". The Chicano Movement
rose alongside the Black Power Movement.
Student Protests in Los Angeles

● AIMS: Protest against Euro-Centric Curriculum, high drop-out rates


amongst Chicano students, and a ban on speaking Spanish in school.

● METHODS: murals, student walkouts in the thousands

● OUTCOMES: Most demands were not met but the movement


helped increased Mexican-American student enrollment, also led to
increase in Mexican Studies programs in universities
LA RAZA UNIDA PARTY

● What was it? Political Party for people of all Hispanic


background
● Outcome: Party eventually fell apart due to disagreements and the
Democratic party taking up major initiatives. The party achieved
success at the local level but not the national level.
