what is biochips
• a microchip designed or intended to function
in a biological environment, especially inside a
living organism.
• a logical device analogous to the silicon chip,
whose components are formed from
biological molecules or structures.
What are biochips used for?
• The biochip is used to simultaneously analyze
a panel of related tests in a single sample,
producing a patient profile.
• The patient profile can be used in disease
screening, diagnosis, monitoring disease
progression or monitoring treatment.
What are examples of biochips?
• There are three types of Biochips available
namely DNA microarray, microfluidic chip, and
protein microarray.
• Which technology is mostly used in biochip?
• The biochip system is a radio frequency
identification (RFID) system, using low-
frequency. The reader generates a low-power,
electromagnetic field, in this case via radio
signals, which “activates” the implanted biochip.
Who developed biochip?
• Biochip development began with the early
work on sensor technology. An American
company by the name
of Affymetrix developed the first biochip,
named Genechip which comprises of a
number of DNA sensors used for finding
defects.
