Towards Health, Safety and Environmental

QHSE Expectations FROM AFAQ TEAM
Project and Construction Managers
• Implementing MMC QHSE policies and Project requirements.
• Demonstrating a clear commitment to MMC QHSE Policy matters.
• Implement and Comply with MMC QHSE objectives and targets to meet
the Project QHSE Objectives and plans.
• Implement and Comply with MMC QHSE procedures and controls to
ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with the QHSE
Integrated Management System.
• Afaq Team to Comply with training needs to enable all personnel to meet
Project QHSE Objectives and Targets.
• Afaq team shall identify methods for consultation with MMC and their
employees on QHSE matters.
• Promptly investigating accidents and near misses and providing effective
follow-up to MMC Team.
• It is the duty of every manager to ensure the health, safety and welfare at
work of all employees under their responsibility.
QHS Expectations From Afaq Team
Engineers and Supervisors
• Main responsibilities are to ensure efficient daily operations under
their supervision.
• All HSE Documentations E.g. Permits, Inductions, MSRA, Training
are complied with.
• To comply with MMC Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality
policies and procedures.
• Line Managers shall accept responsibility for their personal safety
and that of people reporting to them including sub-contractors.
• Provide MMC management with prompt and accurate operational
and QHSE feedback.
• Afaq Team Shall Actively supervises their activities Safely.
QHS Expectations From Afaq Team
All Employees
• Carry out all work activities in a safe manner.
• Follow all MMC QHSE procedures and controls.
• Promptly report all accidents and near misses to their line
Managers and MMC team.
• Report all defects and events which may affect QHSE control.
• Respond correctly in Emergency situations.
• Actively support and co-operate in QHSE matters.
• Take reasonable care to ensure their own health and safety at
work.
• Report all hazards, incidents and injuries.
• Utilize all personal protective equipment provided by their
company.

Communication

Why communicate?

 To make people aware of relevant HSE issues


 To make people aware of their HSE responsibilities
 If we do not communicate effectively, then greater
potential for more incidents and failures.

Methods of Communication

 HSE Meetings (do you get the chance to air your views?)
 Team meetings and briefings

 Toolbox Talks (how effective are they?)


 One on One discussions
 Notice boards and hand-outs

 Written communication (procedures, instructions, PTW etc.)


 Training and coaching sessions
Why Safety Inspections and Audits
 Enable MMC management to sense the HSE level at the
place of work
 To enable Afaq Team take appropriate and suitable
corrective and Preventive action to be carried out by Afaq
 Each workplace should have a program specifying
inspections/audits
 Inspection/audit results should be discussed in HSE
meetings and with the Management.
 To identify and record potential and actual hazards.
 To ensure that existing controls are operative / sufficient /
effective.
 Where appropriate, to recommend and monitor corrective
actions.

Conclusion

 A Supervisor is an important member of the Afaq


Team, who has a lot of key responsibilities and
accountabilities in making QHSE successful.

 Safety and Quality Excellence are a journey not a


destination… We must live them each and every
day, every minute and every second, at work and at
home.

 As Supervisors and family leaders, we are


responsible for others well being and safety.
