NURSING

MANAGEMENT
PLANNING EQIUPMENTS

AND SUPPLIES
FOR
NURSING CARE

PRESENTER:
SUYOG GORDE
2ND YEAR Msc NURSING
INTRODUCTION
Equipment and supplies are an essential
part of health care. These are necessary means
in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of
patients suffering from disease conditions.
These are also the means to control the
environment by supplying heat and light and
to provide necessities, e.g., water, electricity,
feed patients, transport patients, and staff.
GOALS OF PLANNING
• To plan and budget for equipment and
supplies per directives/policies.
• To develop planning tools.
• To estimate realistic equipment-related
allocation.
• To prepare long-term plans and budget.
• To review annual plans and budget.
• To monitor progress to improve planning and
budgeting.
OBJECTIVES

• To get the current equipment situation

• To develop a plan for equipment
• To calculate expenditure required
• To extend the short-term and long-term plans
• To make the budget calculation
• To devise methods to review progress and for
monitoring.
• Need identification and setting goals
• Gather current stock and supply data
STEPS
• Estimate the quantity and cost of equipment
• Estimate expenditure of equipment-related
OF consumable items

• Determine realistic usage rate

and requirements for all
PLANNING equipment-related
consumable items.
 Need identification and setting goals
1. Annual inventory update
2. Reviewing of the equipment development plan (EDP)
3. Reviewing of the equipment training plan (ETP)
4. Costing annual needs (EDP and ETP)
5. Reviewing core equipment expenditure plan and
planning annual purchase, rehabilitation, corrective
and training activities, yearly equipment budget, and
feedback plans
6. Updating long-term plan and equipment and supplies
expenditure plan.
Gather current stock and supply data
(1) To identify any deficiency in stock and
supplies.
(2) To help in planning replacement and
disposing of policies.
(3) Implement purchasing and donation policies.
(4) To calculate equipment and costs.
Estimate the quantity and cost of equipment
1. Gather information about current prices.
2. Compile equipment price list.
3. Estimate new stock values.
4. Use correct stock value and budgeting.
5. Keep on revising prices.
6. Monitor maintenance cost, transport,
installation and reporting.
Estimate expenditure of equipment-related
consumable items
1. Estimate equipment-related consumable items
required in different departments.
2. Find out the different types of expenditure
currently spent.
3. Estimate running costs that should include capital
expenditure and recurrent expenditure for
maintenance, consumable items, and training
expenses.
4. Calculate usage rate for equipment-related
consumable items.
Determine realistic usage rate and requirements
for all equipment-related consumable items
1. Investigate and finalize the type of equipment-
related consumable items requirement .
2. Find out the rate of use, needed per day. per
week, or per month to deliver service to patients
by consulting departments/already prepared list,
maintenance departments, referring departmental
and store records, and getting information from
suppliers.
3. Calculate the annual recurrent funding
requirement.
4. Calculate correct reordering quantities and
timing after getting feedback from the health
management team, the storekeeper calculates
the right re- ordering quantity, and also enters
these items in the stock register.
5. Confirm equipment and technical data
specification before final selection of model
during the procurement.
6. Update information and review annually
usage rate.
