Introduction
–Managerial roles refers to the role of mangers to identify
what managers do in the organizations.
–Role is defined as the pattern of behavior which defined for
different positions.
–Managerial roles depend on the formal authority which is
delegated to the mangers in an organization.
Managerial Roles Interpersonal roles
Interpersonal role of a manger is concerned with
his interacting with other persons which include
both organizational members ad outsiders.
Interpersonal roles
• Figurehead role:- the manger performs activities which are of symbolic
nature. These includes greetings the visitors, attending social functions involving employees and other awards of outstanding employees. • Leaders role:- it involves leading his subordinates and motivating them for willing contributions. • Liaison role:- the manger serve as a connecting role between his organization and outsiders or between his unit and other organizational units. As the name suggests, informational roles of managers involve
gathering and sharing information.
It involves communication giving and receiving information
both within and outside the organization.
Informational Role • Monitor: The monitor role involves collecting information from internal and external sources. The manager in this role gathers data and keeps track of trends, both within the organization and in the wider industry. • Disseminator: The disseminator role is all about sharing information with others. The manager in this role distributes information to employees, other managers, and stakeholders. • Spokesperson: The spokesperson role is similar to the disseminator role, but with a focus on external communication. Decisional Role
• Decisional roles can be defined as managerial roles where
managers are responsible for making calculated and timely decisions for the company's welfare. It involves managers weighing the options and the choices at hand and settling for the most strategic. • The four personality styles of managers are; extroverted, they think fast, they are observant and they have clear judgment. The decisional part involves: Decisional Role
• Entrepreneur – involves all aspects associated with acting as an
initiator, designer, and also an encourager of innovation and change.
• Disturbance handler – taking corrective action when the organization
faces unexpected difficulties which are important in nature.
• Resource Allocator – being responsible for the optimum allocation of
resources like time, equipment, funds, and also human resources, etc.
• Negotiator – includes representing the organization in negotiations
which affect the manager’s scope of responsibility. Summary Mintzberg managerial roles are classified into three distinct categories; Interpersonal, informational, and decision-making roles.
