What does it all mean Boss?
SAFETY!
It means that all the equipment you use or are exposed too
has to be safe and fit for purpose
It has to be properly maintained & logs kept as required
Currently (2020) machinery must also comply with EU law
(Machinery Directive)
ACOP’s must be applied for the use of tools/equipment
Training MUST be provided (either internally or via external
agencies)
Suitable PPE must be provided by the company for the
activities undertaken
K1
Example ACOP for Angle Grinder
It is expected that you will alert your co-workers and anybody else present in
the workshop before you begin using an angle grinder. You should also take
care to organise the wiring in order to prevent serious electrical incidents. The
disc should be completely static before the angle grinder is positioned upon a
surface to ensure that it doesn’t spin and cause significant damage.
These safety procedures should also be followed:
Make sure that grinder is switched off before plugging it into a power supply
Read and operate the grinder in accordance with instructions provided in the
user manual
Select and use the appropriate type of spinning disc for the task
Keep the safety guard on the grinder at all times
Use both hands for safe operation of the grinder
Inspect the grinder before use and replace parts as necessary
Maintain complete focus and take regular breaks

Additional..
Some Hand tools may produce loud noise during operation
It could be as a result of resonant sound from the material type
Your hearing is easily damaged and can be permanently damaged
without realising it.
Continued exposure to 87db+ will begin the process of irreversible
hearing loss.
Ear plugs offer protection up to approx. 82db
Above 85db ear defenders offer protection
A combination of both above 87db, although you should not be
working in an environment that noisy without other noise reduction
technologies in place

Keeping it safe

Cable management will prevent people tripping up
Safe use of chemical products (read the COSHH sheet) will ensure
