RCCB AS HUMAN

PROTECTION FROM
ELECTRICITY
WHAT IS RCCB?

• Residual Current Circuit Breaker or RCCB is an electrical installation safety

device that functions to cut off electricity when there is a disturbance in the
form of a current leak. The leakage current in question is when there is an
insulation failure and results in someone being electrocuted/shocked. Or
when there is an insulation leak which causes an electric current to flow into
other conductors that should not be electrified. When an incident or
disturbance occurs, the RCCB will immediately cut off the electricity.

HOW RCCB WORKS
• The way rccb works is by detecting the difference in current that occurs in two
electrical conductors (wires). When electric current flows into the phase conductor
and out of the neutral conductor, the sum of the currents in the two conductors
should be the same . However, if there is a current leakage (ground fault) in one of
the conductors, the RCCB will detect a current difference and cut off the electricity
automatically to prevent fire or electrical accidents

currents. This is the function of the RCCB, this unit
will detect changes in the current which will
activate the trip relay to cut the current. So
that someone who is electrocuted can still be
helped by this RCCB
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF
RCCB

The ELCB's response is If the electrical installation is

main advantage of the RCCB. trip and the electricity supply

the ELCB has another overload and electric short

equipment from a high risk of MCB

installation errors or damage.
TYPES OF RCCB
• Type AC (Alternating Current)
This type of RCCB has a sensitivity of 30 ma, used to secure AC (alternating
current) power lines that do not have electronic components
• Type A (High Sensitivity)
RCCB type A has a higher sensitivity than the AC type, which is around 10 mA.
This type of RCCB can detect AC and DC leakage currents, making it suitable
for use in electrical networks that have non-linear loads and electronic devices.
• Type B (Extra High Sensitivity)
Type B type has the highest sensitivity compared to other types, which is around
6 mA. Type B RCCB can detect both AC and DC leakage currents,

through the body
1mA, or less There is no effect, it isn’t felt
1 - 8mA The sting is felt but not painful
8 - 15mA Stings hurt, can still escape and
consciousness is not lost
15 - 20mA Sting of pain consciousness can be
lost and can’t escape
20 - 50mA Pain, difficulty breathing, muscle
spasms and loss of consciousness
100 - 200mA Deadly condition and hard to help
200mA or more Burns and heart stops beating
CONCLUSION
• The RCCB is an essential electrical protection device for preventing
electrical accidents. A properly installed RCCB will ensure that no fatal
injury occurs to people in the event of accidental touch of live wires.
