What was the fall of the
Berlin Wall?
Was a peacefully and without
shedding blood protest on November
9th, 1989. The German population
demolished the Berlin Wall. This
structure divided the German capital
in 2 for almost three decades.
Construction of the
Berlin Wall
This wall was built a few days in August 1961 by the government of
the German Democratic Republic to prevent the continuation of the
migration of its population to the western sector of the city, which
belonged to the German Federal Republic. For 28 years it separated
the two sectors of the city, preventing contact between its habitants.
Causes
FELIX JOHANSER MORENO
PEGUERO
• The economic crisis of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or for its acronym
(USSR), aggravated by the arms race with the West in the context of the Cold War and
by the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan.

• The crisis of confidence in the communist leaders due to the inefficiency and corruption
of the rulers.

• The manifestations of social discontent that forced governments to relax control over
the population.

• The opening of the Hungarian border that caused a massive movement of population
towards the West.

• The announcement of the opening of the borders between the GDR and the FRG
Consequences

• The collapse of the German Democratic Republic and German
reunification during 1990.
• The rebellions in different countries of Eastern Europe,
encouraged by the success of the Germans.
• The withdrawal of Soviet troops from German territory.
• Indirectly, the fall of the wall accelerated the collapse of the
Soviet model and the dismemberment of the USSR into
different republics. This meant the end of the Cold War.
Effects of the fall of berlin
• The fall of the wallwall
has created its own literary subgenre. This
subgenre is not strictly limited to the process of reunification,
promoted on November 9, 1989 with the fall of the wall, but these
novels are a kind of obituary of the GDR.

• It marked the end of the Cold War, but also the birth of
a new world order: from bipolar to unipolar. It was also
the symbol of a constellation of events that were to
transform the world. The governments associated with
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)
collapsed one after another.
