LITERACY- the ability to identify, understand,
interpret, create, communicate and compute,
using printed and written materials associated
with varying contexts. Literacy involves a
continuum of learning, wherein individuals are
able to achieve their goals, develop their
knowledge and potential, and participate fully in
their community and wider society.
MEDIA- the physical objects used to
communicate with, or the mass communication
through physical objects such as radio, television,
computers, film, etc. It also refers to any physical
object used to communicate messages.
In most recent years, the term media is often
used to include new online media.
MEDIA LITERACY- the ability to access, analyze,
evaluate, and create media in a variety of forms.
It aims to empower citizens by providing them
with the competencies (knowledge and skills)
necessary to engage with traditional media and
ne technologies.
INFORMATION-a broad term that covers
processed data, knowledge derived from study,
experience, instruction, signals or symbols.

recognize when information is needed, and to
locate, evaluate, and effectively communicate
information in its various formats.

literate in media and information?
What activities/habits do you practice which
illustrate media and information literacy? Give
at least three examples.
Speed
The biggest
impact of
technology on
communication
is the speed of
the Internet and
the possibility of
sending emails
and chatting.
Costs
Computers and the
Internet have made the
process of creating and
editing documents and
using spell check and
grammar check
automatic and easy.
Email lets us send
documents to any part
of the globe within
seconds, making letters
mostly useless. The
Internet has increased
the speed and reduced
the costs drastically.
Quality
Knowledge is now
accessible by a click
of the mouse that
helps translate a text
from an unfamiliar
language to your
language. We can
use a high speed
computer for almost
ant thing and its
quality will always
stay the same.
Change in
Style
The invention of
new devices such
as mobile phones
has made
communication
easier by allowing
people to
communicate
from anywhere.
Different Ways to
communicate
Now we have
many other ways
of conveying text.
We can send
emoticons
pictures
animations and
many other
different ways to
talk.
Different Ways to
communicate

Now instead of
just writing we can
do all these other
things. We can
replace a word
with symbols
witch makes thing
even faster.
Any where

Now we can
communicate
with someone
half way
around the
world!
Accessibility
Now it is so
easy to take
your phone
with you slip it
in your pocket
and use it
where ever.
Group Chats
Now we can talk
to multiple
people at once.
We can make a
group chat and
instead of
individually
contacting
multiple people.
Upgrades
New ever
changing
tablets and
phones are
now very
different with
every upgrade
and new
phone.
Different ways to
connect
We used to be only
limited to writing letters
and using the type
writer but now we have
it way easier. We can
text, call, go on apps
such as facebook,
insagram, snap chat and
many other social
media handles to
communicate. We can
post photos and update
statuses and change
stories.
