What is Administration?

 The administration is a very important part of our life. When you


go to the highway, educational institutes, hospitals, etc, you
automatically enter the administrative systems.
 The word Administration is derived from two Latin words ‘ad’
and ‘ministiare’ which means ‘to serve’, in simple words
administration means to look after people or to manage affairs.
WHAT IS PUBLIC
ADMINISTRATION?
 Public refers to the government so, public administration means
governmental administration. In simple language public administration
is the management of governmental affairs and activities.
BROADER VIEW

 Public administration refers to activities of all three branches (is


executive, legislative and judicial) of the government. That means
in broader sense public administration deals with all the work
process of the three branches of the government.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PUBLIC
ADMINISTRATION

 As an Instrument for Providing Service


 As an Instrument for Implementing the Laws and Policies of the
Government
 As an Instrument for the Sustainable Development

 It provides several services to citizens such as education, health, housing, social
security, and a lot more. All these services affect every moment of human life.
Without public administration, the services provided by the government can never
reach to the people.

As an Instrument for Implementing the Laws


and Policies of the Government
 It plays a crucial role in the implementation of laws, public policies, and programs
made by the government. The government make laws and policies for the interest of
the people. Public administration puts them into reality. 
As an Instrument for the Sustainable
Development 
 That means economic development without harming the environment. Administrators are
playing a significant role for the protection of environment. All the environmental issues are
solved through public administration.  

As an Instrument for Community Development


 Different races and religions live in every country. Therefore, a common policy for all does
not apply effectively. Public administration gathers neutral information about each
community in the society and based on that information the government makes policies and
the public administration applies those policies to that particular community. So public
administration also has a leading role in community development.
As an Instrument for Public Safety

 Above all, it has to admit that it provides us with social security. We


can never be safe without public administration. It provides a lot of
services that make citizens secure such as fire, police and medical
services, and more.
CONCLUSION

 In light of the discussion of the meaning, nature and scope of public


administration, it can be concluded that today, public administration is
a very important part of our life. It provides us all the essential services
that we need.

 The goal of public administration is to protect the public interest and to


move forward with it in mind. So public administration is a kind of
people-oriented administration and its nature is democratic.

CONCEPT OF BUSINESS

 Literally, the word “business” means the state of being busy.


Generally, the term business includes all human activities concerned
with earning money. In other words, business is an activity in which
various persons regularly produce or exchange goods and services for
mutual gain or profit. The goods and services produced or purchased
for personal use are not included in “business”
DEFINITION

 According to L. H. Haney “Business may be defined as human activities


directed toward providing or acquiring wealth through buying and selling
of goods.”
 James Stephenson says that: “Every human activity which is engaged in
for the sake of earning profit may be called business.”
 B. W. Wheeler says that “An institution organized and operated to
provide goods and services to the society, under the incentive of private
gain” is business.
WHAT IS BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION?
 Business administration is the process of managing workers and
allocating resources efficiently and effectively by applying
microeconomic principles. The goal is to achieve stability, growth and
profitability for a business.

 Business administration professionals work to ensure that businesses


and organizations are run effectively, efficiently and profitably. This is
a balancing act that requires knowledge and skills in a range of
disciplines.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BUSINESS

 The importance of business administration is of course very high. In order for a
business to run properly and to be successful, every aspect of the business needs to
work. In order for this to take place, business administrators should monitor, manage
and assess each element of the business, keeping records and analyzing each
department's information on a regular basis to ensure everything is running
according to plan.

 THE PROCESS OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION


 The process of business administration is the overseeing and controlling of a
business. This includes keeping a lot of records, monitoring and overseeing every
department and staffing and managing teams of employees.
Business Administration Functions
 PLANNING
 It is the basic function of management. It deals with chalking out a future course of
action & deciding in advance the most appropriate course of actions for achievement of
pre-determined goals.

 ORGANIZING
 The purpose of organizing is to create the optimal environment for workflow efficiency
and results. Goals must be defined first prior to Organizing Business administrator then:
• Identifies responsibilities to be performed
• Analyzes the human resources and tools needed
• Delegates the responsibilities
 STAFFING
 This role is a large part of any business administrator’s job.
• Determining staffing needs
• Preparing job descriptions
• Interviewing
• Training
An effective manager understands issues such as:
• Diversity
• Ethics
• Politics
 DIRECTING
 It is that part of managerial function which actuates the organizational methods to work
efficiently for achievement of organizational purposes. It is considered life-spark of the
enterprise which sets it in motion the action of people because planning, organizing and
staffing are the mere preparations for doing the work. Direction is that inert-personnel aspect
of management which deals directly with influencing, guiding, supervising, motivating sub-
ordinate for the achievement of organizational goals.
DIRECTION HAS THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:
 SUPERVISION-implies overseeing the work of subordinates by their superiors. It is the act
of watching & directing work & workers.
 MOTIVATION-means inspiring, stimulating or encouraging the sub-ordinates with zeal to
work. Positive, negative, monetary, non-monetary incentives may be used for this purpose.
 LEADERSHIP-may be defined as a process by which manager guides and influences the
work of subordinates in desired direction.
 COMMUNICATIONS-is the process of passing information, experience, opinion etc from
one person to another. It is a bridge of understanding
 CONTROLLING
 It implies measurement of accomplishment against the standards and
correction of deviation if any to ensure achievement of organizational
goals. The purpose of controlling is to ensure that everything occurs in
conformities with the standards. An efficient system of control helps to
predict deviations before they actually occur.
 Controlling is the measurement & correction of performance activities of
subordinates in order to make sure that the enterprise objectives and plans
desired to obtain them as being accomplished”
CONCLUSION

 Business administration in simple terms, is everything that encompasses


a business. The administration of a business includes managing and
monitoring absolutely everything to do with a business, from marketing,
advertising, to the hiring and the management of staff. To explore
