ACHIEVEMENT TEST

INTRODUCTION
Achievement test is an important tool in school education and has great significance in
measuring instructional process and progress of students in the subject area.
It is directly related to pupils growth and development in educational situations.
DEFINITIONS
ACCORDING TO THORNDIKE AND HAGEN
• “The type of ability test that describe what a person has learned to do”.

ACCORDING TO GROWNLUND
• “A systematic procedure for determining the amount a student has learned through instruction”.

ACCORDING TO NM-DOWNIE
• “Any test that measure the accomplishments of an individual after a period of training or learning”.
FUNCTIONS

• Provide basis for promotion to next grade.


• Find out where each student stands in various academic areas.
• Motivate the students before a new assignment has taken up.
• Expose pupil’s difficulties which the teacher can help them to solve.
TYPES OF ACHIVEMENT TEST

There are two types of achievement test.


1. Standardized test.
2. Teacher made test.
STANDARDIZED TEST

• Standardized test are carefully constructed test which have uniformity of procedure in scoring
administrating and interpreting the test results.

• According to Lee J Cronbach


A standardized test is one in which the procedure, apparatus, and scoring have been fixed so
that precisely the same test can be given at different times and places.
PROCESS

• Standardization of the content.


• Standardization of the mothed of administration.
• Standardization of scoring procedure.
• Standardization of interpretation.
TEACHER MADE TEST

• Teacher made tests are classroom tests and developed by the teacher.
• These tests assess students learning every period of time or after a particular unit
of study.
• It is prepared to measure the outcomes and content of local curriculum.
