DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT - ADYAA
• Sustainable development is a way of organizing or putting together the society so that it can
exist in long terms.
• There are a lot of people below the poverty line who struggle to have access to their daily
necessities like food, safe water, healthcare and shelter for their survival.
• Mainly "Sustainable development is the development that satisfies the needs of the present
without compromising the capacity of future generations, guaranteeing the balance between
economic growth, care for the environment and social well being.“
• The definition of sustainable development can be broken into two parts:
• 1.The development that satisfies the needs of the present generation.
• 2. The development that will enhance the capability of future generations to meet their own
needs.
ELEMENTS OF SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT – SNEHAL
• On the basis of different criteria such as context and level of decision making , the three elements
of sustainable development are as follows –
1. Social
2. Economic
3. Environmental
These three elements are interconnected and are known as the pillars of sustainability .
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS-
ARYAN
• Agreed on in 2015, the SDGs set the global development agenda until 2030.
• The sustainable development goals (SDGs) are a universal plan for all countries to end
poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
• They are a set of 17 goals which include 169 targets.
• They provide a focus for the international community’s development efforts until 2030 and
are the yardstick by which progress will be measured.
• They are intended to be tackled as a group rather than individually
• Unlike the MDGs, which were written by a group of individuals at the UN headquarters, the
sustainable development goals were created by a number of consultations.

HOW CAN WE MAKE IT HAPPEN ?
- ADVAY
• To make sustainable development the norm , we have to change the vision of
the culture of each country . To alter this two things have to occur –
1. The culture must value a global benefit more than a local one..
2. A responsibility towards providing and sustaining resources for the future
must be considered of more value than profit in the present .
APPRECIATE THE COMPLEXITY OF
SOCIAL ISSUES – RAJSHRI
Nowadays many social issues are occurring which affect the common citizens of
our country . social issues can be part of our cultural stereotype . for example the
poor children begging on the roads. They don’t go to school , they are forced to
beg for a living . these issues are complexed and interlinked . like begging is an
issue due to poverty .
INTERLINKED NATURE OF SOCIAL
ISSUES ACROSS SDG’S – RIJUL
• A social issue is an aspect of society that people are concerned about and would
like to get it changed .
• The concern of a social issue may be objective or subjective .
• The nature of social issues is complex i.e. you will achieve nothing is you try to
solve one problem without first discerning its link with other problems .
• The interlinked relationship that exists between SDG’s is crucially important as
it can be both harmful and beneficial .
