DEFINE THE UNITED NATIONS
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS:

 The United Nations (UN) adopted

Sustainable Development Goals in 2015
as an action to end poverty, save the
planet, and ensure the peace and
prosperity of people by 2023.

 There are 17 Sustainable Development

Goals (SDGs).

 SDGs are global rather than being limited

to developing countries (World Health
Organization, 2022).
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC
GROWTH:
 Goal 8 of Decent work and Economic growth
aims to ensure financial progress followed by
decent work and fulfilling jobs where labor
rights and the environment are not harmed
(The Global Goals, 2022).
 Zara should follow this Goal 8 to protect labor
rights and put a stop to unfair wages and
unethical working conditions.
 Zara can adopt this goal to offer jobs
worldwide rather than prioritizing local labor
in Spain at low wages (Shastri,2021).
 Economic growth will eventually be
supported by equal job opportunities and
ethical work practices.
GENDER
EQUALITY:
 This goal focuses on achieving gender equality
and empowering all women and girls (The
Global Goals, 2022a).

 Zara should focus on fulfilling this SDG goal

by offering equal pay to all genders without
any biases and discrimination.

 To empower women and girls, the company

should take some initiatives led by women.

 The diversity and inclusion policy of Zara must

be practised at work stations rather than just
being a part of the employee handbook.
SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND
COMMUNITIES:
 This SDG goal focuses on making cities and
human settlements safe, inclusive, durable, and
sustainable (Women, 2023).

 Zara should make environmental commitments

to ensure safe and resilient human settlements,
such as banning harmful chemicals in the
production process.

 It must introduce a clothes collection initiative

where customers return their no longer use
clothes to the company to reuse or recycle.

 Zara should initiate a health awareness program

to prevent chronic diseases and improve primary
health.
CONCLUSION:

 These three discussed Sustainable Development Goals are

helpful to retail companies since they facilitate their efforts
to offer equal work opportunities, take part in economic
development initiatives, and treat all genders equally
without any discrimination of sex, race, age, or ethnicity.
Moreover, Zara can practice these SDG goals to empower
women and girls, help build sustainable cities, and initiate
safe practices for human settlements.
