INTRODUCTION

In this history of civilization, no work of science including health care

information has so comprehensively impacted on the course of human
development as health information and management
technology(HIMT).currently the outcome of transformation that has
taken from the manual information technology management to a fast
and accurate computerized – HIMT of this century.
NURSING INFORMATICS

Nursing informatics combines nursing, information and computer

sciences to manage and communicate information to support nurses
and health care provider in decision making.

databases
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome information onLINE
(AIDSLINE)
 CANCER LITerature (CANCER LIT)
Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL)
Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC)
 Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System
(MEDLARS)
 Mental Measurement Yearbook
 Psychological Abstracts (PsychINFO
Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI)

 Many software programmes help students and nurses learn and

demonstrate learning.
 Examples of tutorials include ECG interpretation, drug interactions,
and legal aspects of nursing.

 Completion of CAI programmes may be an acceptable means of

demonstrating continuing education activities.

Classroom Technology

 New educational buildings are wired to accommodate technology.

This includes electric outlets and wireless technology for network
or Internet access.
 For nursing faculty, liquid crystal display (LCD) panels allow
computer screens to be displayed to the entire classroom.
2.Testing
 This is the second use of computer in nursing education.
 Surveys, including anonymous questionnaires, can be completed online.
 For testing, large banks of potential items can be written and the computer can
generate different exams for each student depending on the selection criteria.
 Students’ answers can also be scored electronically and the exam results
analysed quickly.
 For example, the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN)
moved from paper and pencil tests to computer tests.
Student and Course Record Management

 Computers are useful for maintaining results of students’ grades

or attendance.
 The computer programme can calculate percentages, sort student
scores in order, and print results for both students and faculty.
 Students are frequently asked to evaluate faculty and courses.
These data are also scanned into the computer so that cumulative
results can be calculated and stored.

Evolution of Nursing Informatics: A key to Improving Nursing PracticeMay 2016
Merit Research Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences Nahed Saied El-Nagger
• ABSTRACT :Nursing Informatics (NI) is defines as "the integration of nursing, its
information and information management with information processing and
communication technology to support the health of people worldwide. Nursing
informatics is key to effective decision making. Whereas, powerful communication
technology enables the secure transmission of information among health care service
organizational and professional.
• So, nurses are expected to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care in an
increasingly technical and digital environment.
• Objective:to determine the impact of nursing informatics and the use of information
systems to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
• Results: review of article showed that there is a positive trends of nurses toward
using of nursing informatics that are the foundation for evidence based practice.
• Conclusion&Recommendations: concluded that nursing informatics is so important
&nurses should be engaged with information systems to improve the delivery of care.
An
appraisal of Nursing Informatics Research and the Influence of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of
Technology Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
DIODEMISE OVWASA

• The study recognized the importance of healthcare informatics in today’s dynamic health systems, and
narrows down to how nursing informatics, a component of healthcare informatics, can provide efficient
and effective healthcare delivery. Hence, underpinned by the unified theory of acceptance and use of
technology (UTAUT),
• the study aimed at situating research activities on nursing informatics within existing studies that have
applied the theory to investigate healthcare informatics in general. The study adopted a systematic review
of literature to explored online databases: Google Scholar and Ebscohost from 2014 to 2019.
• The search returned a total of 205 articles for the specified period. However, only 8 eligible studies were
found to be related specifically to nursing informatics.
• The study also revealed that performance expectancy and effort expectancy (respectively), both being
constructs of the UTAUT, are the dominating factors influencing the acceptance/adoption/use of nursing
informatics among the papers under review.
• The study recommends that researchers should further explore the use of nursing informatics technologies
in healthcare. In addition; nursing informatics system designers should factor in the effectiveness and ease
of use of the technologies for easy usage. On the other hand, the stakeholders in medical field are called
upon to provide the enabling infrastructure to enhance the use of nursing informatics technologies.
Nursing Informatics Research Trends: Findings from an International Survey
December 2021
This follow-up survey on trends in Nursing Informatics (NI) was conducted by the
International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Student and Emerging
Professionals (SEP) group as a cross-sectional study in 2019.
There were 455 responses from 24 countries. Based on the findings NI research is
evolving rapidly. Current ten most common trends include: clinical quality
measures, clinical decision support, big data, artificial intelligence, care
coordination, education and competencies, patient safety, mobile health, description
of nursing practices and evaluation of patient outcomes.
The findings help support the efforts to efficiently use resources in the promotion of
health care activities, to support the development of informatics education and to
grow NI as a profession.
The Role of Nursing Informatics on Promoting Quality of Health Care and the Need for Appropriate Education Darvish A,

it seems necessary to study the role of nurses and highlight the need for appropriate information
technology educational programs to integrate with the ever-increasing pace of technology.
A review accompanied by an extensive literature search in databases and a library search focused
on the keywords were used.
The criteria used for selecting studies primarily focused on nursing informatics and the importance
of expertise in the effective use of information technology in all aspects of the nursing profession.
In a critical assessment of emerging technologies, the key elements of nursing informatics
implementation were considered as healthcare promotion, advanced systems, internet and network.
In view of the nature and the development of the information age, it is required to receive
necessary IT training for all categories of nurses. Due to the fast development of technology, in
order to effectively take advantage of information technology in nursing outcome and quality of
health care and to empower nurses; educational arrangement is recommended to set short-term and
long-term specialized courses focusing on four target groups: studying, working, graduate, senior
undergraduate, and graduate doctoral.
The result of this study is expected to assist educational providers with program development.
A study on nursing informatics competence of clinical nurses: Applying focus group interview The Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education

Purpose: This study is a content analysis to understand the nursing informatics

competence of clinical nurses.
Methods: Focus group interviews were used to collect data. Two focus group
interviews were held with a total of nine clinical nurses. All interviews were
recorded and transcribed. Content analysis was used to analyze data.
Results: The five main categories of nursing informatics competence that emerged
are 1) software program use, 2) use of nursing information, 3) use of information
communication technology in nursing, 4) professional responsibilities and ethics, and
5) active attitudes and recognition. Next, there are three strategies to improve nursing
informatics competence: 1) organizational approach, 2) opportunity of continuous
education, 3) presentation of standards in nursing informatics competence.
Conclusion: Further studies such as educational program development and
evaluation tool development are necessary. Moreover, there is a need to enhance
clinical nurses' nursing informatics competence by using the proposed strategies.
