Types of Vectors

In general vectors may be divided into three types:

1. Proper Vectors
2. Axial Vectors
3. Inertial or Pseudo Vectors

1. Proper Vectors
Displacement, force, momentum, etc. are the proper vectors
2. Axial Vectors
The vectors which act along the axis of rotation are called axial vectors.
Example: Angular veclocity, torque, angular acceleration, angular momentum.
3. Inertial or Pseudo Vectors
The vectors used to make an inertial frame of reference.
Different Types of Vectors
1. Equal Vectors
2. Like Vectors
3. Opposite Vectors
4. Unlike Vectors
5. Unit Vectors
6. Null vectors
7. Proper Vectors
8. Co-initial Vectors
9. Coplanar Vectors
1. Equal Vectors
Two vectors are said to be equal if they have the same magnitude and same direction, wherever
be their initial positions.
2. Like Vectors
Two vectors are said to be like vectors, if they have same direction but different magnitude.
3. Opposite Vectors
The vectors of same magnitude but opposite in direction, are called opposite vectors.
4. Unlike Vectors
The Vectors of different magnitude acting in opposite direction are called unlike vectors.
5. Unit Vectors
A vector with magnitude of 1.
6. Null vector or Zero Vector
A vector whose magnitude is zero, its starting and end point is the same.
7. Proper Vectors
All the non-zero vectors are called proper vectors.
8. Co-initial Vectors
Vectors having the same starting point
9. Coplanar Vectors
Vectors lying in the same plane are called coplanar vectors and the plane in which the vectors lie are called plane vectors.
