What is jersey fabric?

• Jersey is a knit fabric that is commonly used in clothing. In the


past, most jersey fabric was made with wool, but it’s now more
common to find cotton and synthetic jersey garments. While
many athletic jerseys are made with jersey fabric.
How is jersey fabric made?

1.Creating Fibers: Firstly synthetic fibers are created by combining various


chemicals to produce usable textile materials.
2.knitting: Next cotton, wool or synthetic yarn is loaded onto an automated
knitting machine.
3.Twisting: Then the knitting machine twists and combines yarn to create
distinctive structure of jersey fabric.
4.Dyeing: finally the yarn is dyed prior to the knitting process , textile
manufacturers dye fabric once it is finished.

have a remarkably negative impact on the environment.
Producing polyester and rayon involves the use of toxic
chemicals during the production process.
Why is jersey fabric used for sportswear?

• Jersey garments tend to fit closer to the body than ones made
from woven fabric, as their elasticity allows them to mould to
body contours more closely.
