CONTENT KNOWLEDGE
PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT KNOWLEDGE
-is the integration of subject and skilled
teaching in a particular subject. It was
first developed by Lee Shulman in
1986. He believed and recognized that
teachers needed more than
understanding of the subjects they
taught, they also needed skills and
strategies to be able to convey its ideas
effectively to students. Lee Shulman, 1986
PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT KNOWLEDGE
-To teach all students according to today’s
standards, teachers need to understand subject
matter deeply and flexibly so they can help students
create useful cognitive maps and relate one idea to
another. Teachers need to see how ideas
connect across fields and to everyday life. This
kind of understanding provides a foundation for
pedagogical content knowledge that enables
teachers to make ideas accessible to others.
Lee Shulman, 1986
