CHAPTER NO : 3

  DATA
COLLECTION
AND SAMPLING
2

MEANING OF DATA:
Presentation title 3

The word data came from the Latin word 'Datum'

which means “something given”.4

After a research question is developed, data is

being collected continuously through observation.
Then it is organized, summarized, classified, and
then represented graphically.

Data can be divided into two categories-

Qualitative data and Quantitative data.

TYPES OF DATA :
Discrete data :
Data that can only take on certain values are discrete data.
These values do not have to be complete numbers, but they are
values that are fixed. It only contains finite values, the
subdivision of which is not possible. It includes only those
values which are separate and can only be counted in
whole numbers or integers, which means that the data can not
be split into fractions or decimals.

Discrete Data Examples: The number of students in a class, the
number of chocolates in a bag, the number of strings on the
guitar, the number of fishes in the aquarium, etc.
6

CONTINUOUS DATA :
Continuous data is the data that can be of any value. Over time,
some continuous data can change.

It may take any numeric value, within a potential value range of

finite or infinite.

The continuous data can be broken down into

fractions and decimals, i.e. according to measurement accuracy,
it can be significantly subdivided into smaller sections.

7
Continuous Data Examples: Measurement of
height and weight of a student, Daily temperature
measurement of a place, Wind speed measured
daily, etc.

Categorical Data :
Categorical data refers to a form of information that
can be stored and identified based on their names
or labels. It is a type of qualitative data that can be
grouped into categories instead of being measured
numerically.

This data type is made up of categorical variables

that show things like a person’s gender, hometown,
and so on.
SURVEY TOPIC : 8

ONLINE CLASSES V/S OFFLINE

Questionnaire :
CLASSES
What do you prefer online classes or offline classes ?
Which is better online education or offline education ?
In which you are more comfortable for study ?
Which one is more effective online or offline ?
Is that offline classes are more preferable because teacher
teaches the concept more with practical and demonstration
techniques?
Why online classes are not as impactful as compare to offline?
Why students do not understand the concept in online ?
Which type of class will you prefer ahead for study ?
In which classes doubts are cleared and assessment are done
properly ?
In which classes the students mistake can be identified and
rectified more ?
About Survey : The survey is going to be conducted on the recent
topic online classes v/s offline classes because it will help us to 9

understand the students point of view with respect to teaching and

learning process.

Sample Population: The sample population for this survey will be

school students college students who had the experience of online
classes during the lookdown period.

Trialled Questionnaire: Yes I have practice the above questions

before conducting the survey.

Findings : The main finding in the survey is that most of the students
are interested in offline classes. As they can have more
communication and get a chance to discuss their problems more.

Weakness : The weakness of the survey could be the length of the

sample population. If we do not include more students or population
in survey then the conclusion is not effective as it should be.
