Who is Albert

Bandura?

Albert Bandura, shown here

receiving a 2016 U.S. National
Medal of Science from President
Obama, is the pioneering
researcher of observational
learning.
What research did Bandura conduct?

The Bobo Doll Study

There were three key conditions – aggressive
condition, non-aggressive condition and also control
group.
Thus, the experiments are an example of matched
pair design.
The way the children had act showed the result of
behaviorism.
What was the
research design?

Aim
The Bandura Bobo Doll
experiment deals with how
children respond when 2 distinct
adult models are seen, one
being aggressive and one being
non-aggressive.
RESULT

Result Bandura’s group found that the children who had

observed the aggressive models were significantly more
aggressive.
Boys-> physical violence
Girls-> verbal violence
Boys made comments like ‘Ladies shouldn’t do that!’ The
results also indicated that the boys and girls who observed
the nonaggressive model exhibited less non-imitative mallet
aggression than in the control group, which had no model.
Conclusion Aggression is a learnt behavior
What was the instead of being innate Children are more
likely to imitate behaviors modeled by the
CONCLUSION? adults with same gender. For example,
many boys commented negatively when a
woman adult performed violence on bobo
doll The form of violence differs depending
on the sex; boys, who are closer to physical
nature, are likely to be physically violent but
girls tend to be more verbal and social. Girls
are less likely to be physically violent but like
boys, are equally prone to verbal
aggression. Children observing an adult
model utilizing violence are more likely to
believe that this type of behavior is normal.
They may, therefore, be more likely to use
this type of action themselves when
confronted by similar situations. Modeling is
the powerful way of learning Learning can
take place in absence of reinforcement. One
can learn by via observation and modeling
Behaviorist believe that someone’s behavior adapts to
the environment they’re around.
The children were observing the adults and copied
their actions. This type of psychology that was used
here was an experimental one; an investigation to find
out information on how the children’s learning or
memory comprehended. In this experiment the
children were put together based on how aggressive
they acted. This is called matched pairs design.
There are certain steps to collecting information like this
from developing a theory to collecting data and analyzing
your results. At the end of the experiment Bandura's theory
was quite accurate.
One theory was that the children in the less aggressive
group would act less aggressive than the control group.
Children that was shown to the violence tend to imitate on
what they saw when the adults weren’t present. The
research shown that boys behave twice as aggressively
than a girl.
