INTRODUCTION
5G: 5th generation wireless technology

 Complete wireless communication with almost no limitations

 Can be called REAL wireless world

 Has incredible transmission speed

 With Better voice and video Quality

EVOLUTION OF WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES
1G

2G

3G

4G

5G
1G
Developed in 1980s & completed in early 1990s

Based on analog system

Speed up to 2.4 kbps

AMPS (Advance Mobile Phone System) was launched by the

US & it was the 1G mobile system

Allows user to make voice calls in 1 country

2G
Developed in late 1980s & completed in late 1990s

It was launched in Finland in the year 1991

Based on digital system

Speed up to 64 kbps

Services such are digital voice & SMS with more clarity
3G
3G technology refer to third generation which was introduced in year 2000s.

Transmission speed from 125 kbps to 2Mbps

Superior voice quality

Good clarity in video conference

E-mail, information surfing, on-line shopping/ banking, games

Typically called Smart Phones

4G
Developed in 2010

Faster & more reliable

Speed up to 100 Mbps

High performance

Low Cost Per-bit

5G
Next major phase of mobile telecommunication & wireless system

10 times more capacity than others

Expected speed up to 1 Gbps

More faster & reliable than 4G

Lower cost than previous

COMPARISON OF 1G TO 5G TECHNOLOGIES
Technologies Used to Develop 5G
higher frequencies
lower latencies
Uses UWB (Ultra Wide Bandwidth) networks with higher BW at
low energy levels
BW is of 4000 Mbps, which is 400 times faster than today’s
wireless networks
Uses smart antenna
Features of 5G
Less traffic

25 Mbps connectivity speed

Uploading & Downloading speed of 5G touching the peak (up to 1 Gbps)

Better & fast solution

Support virtual private networks

More attractive & effective

Application areas of 5G technology
Transportation
Smart Home
Smart City
Manufacturing
Healthcare
Agriculture
Impacts of 5G on economy
By 2023, one billion users are expected to have access to 5G technology.

According to Qualcomm, by 2035 there will be around $12 trillion worth of 5G related

services,

Qualcomm predicts the 5G value chain will generate up to $3.5 trillion in revenue in 2035

support as many as 22 million jobs

Qualcomm also forecasts that 5G will boost global GDP growth by $3 trillion cumulatively
from 2020 to 2035
Challenges of 5G Technology
Frequency bands Unlike 4G LTE that already operates on established frequency bands
below 6GHz, 5G requires frequencies up to 300GHz. Wireless carriers still need to bid for
the higher spectrum bands, as they build and roll out their respective 5G networks. In the
U.S., bidding in the 28GHz spectrum alone reached $690 million dollar by December
2018.
Deployment and coverage Though 5G offers a significant increase in speed and
bandwidth, its more limited range will require further infrastructure. The challenge is that
5G antennas, although able to handle more users and data, can only beam out over shorter
distances.

Cont.
 Costs to build and buy Building a network is expensive. Total global
spending on 5G is set to reach $88 billion by 2023, according to Heavy
Reading’s Mobile Operator 5G Capex.
 Device support Most smartphone and other device we used today doesn’t
support 5G service so to use 5G network we have to change by 5G compatible
devices.
 Security and privacy Like any data-driven technology, 5G rollout will have to
contend with both standard and sophisticated cybersecurity threats.
Requirements to apply 5G technology
Advantages of 5G
Data BW of 1 Gbps or higher
Globally accessible
Dynamic information access
Available at low cost
Longer battery life.
High connectivity
more dialing speed, more clarity in audio & video
Disadvantages of 5G
Technology is still under process and research on its viability is going on.

Developing infrastructure needs high cost.

Many of the old devices would not be competent to 5G

Security and privacy issue yet to be solved.

Is 5G available now?
A: Yes, 5G is already here today, and global operators started launching new 5G
networks in early 2019.

Also, all major phone manufacturers are commercializing 5G phones.

5G has been deployed in 60+ countries and counting.

Conclusion
The new coming 5G technology will be available in the market at
affordable rates, high peak future & much reliability than preceding
technologies

Today’s wired society is going wireless and if it has problem, 5G is

answer.
