Monitors –
Monitors are also called Visual Display Unit (VDU).
The monitor shows our work on its screen.
We can’t touch or feel the files inside the computer. Therefore, we call them
‘Soft copies’
There are 2 main types of monitors.
Impact Printers
• Work by banging a head or needle against an ink
ribbon to make a mark on the paper.
Example: Dot-matrix printers – They give us a carbon
copy, while printing onto the original paper.
• Used to print bills.

NON-IMPACT PRINTERS
Inkjet Printer
• Inkjet Printer
• The coloured printers we use at home.
• Use a coloured cartridge and a black ink cartridge.
• Best for home and office use.
Ink cartridges
LASER PRINTER
• Very expensive
• High quality printouts
• Toners are used instead of ink cartridges.
Laser printers
• 2000 -10,000 printouts can be taken from a
toner.
• Best for printing shops and business places.
• There are coloured printers and black and
white laser printers. Toners
