Monitors –
 Monitors are also called Visual Display Unit (VDU).
 The monitor shows our work on its screen.
 We can’t touch or feel the files inside the computer. Therefore, we call them
‘Soft copies’
 There are 2 main types of monitors.

PRINTERS
• Printers print our work onto a paper.
• The printouts are called ‘Hard copies’.
• There are 2 main categories of printers.
• Impact Printers
• Non-impact Printers

Impact Printers
• Work by banging a head or needle against an ink
ribbon to make a mark on the paper.
Example: Dot-matrix printers – They give us a carbon
copy, while printing onto the original paper.
• Used to print bills.

Inkjet Printer

• There are different types of non-impact printers.


• Inkjet Printer
• Laser Printer
• Thermal Printer

• Inkjet Printer
• The coloured printers we use at home.
• Use a coloured cartridge and a black ink cartridge.
• Best for home and office use.

Ink cartridges
LASER PRINTER

• Very expensive
• High quality printouts
• Toners are used instead of ink cartridges.
Laser printers
• 2000 -10,000 printouts can be taken from a
toner.
• Best for printing shops and business places.
• There are coloured printers and black and
white laser printers. Toners
THERMAL PRINTER

• Uses heat to make an image on


paper.
• Uses a special paper that changes
its colour to black when heated.
• Used to print bills without
carbon copies.
