The Impact of Societal

Pressure Towards
Teenagers in Barangay
Malinta
Introduction

• Teenagers in today's generation are subjected to a great

deal of pressure from our culture and somewhat has an
influence on their development. They are likely to be
impacted by what they read or see online. Individuals
desire like sense of belongingness so they are afraid of
being rejected by their society if they do not live up to the
standards. Individuals lose confidence as a result of
cultural pressures and expectations and because of this,
most people become misfits and are now targets of
bullying since they are not what society expects from
them.
• Societal pressure has been researched in a variety of
domains, including sociology, psychology, and anthropology.
Sociologists have investigated how social institutions and
cultural values influence individual behavior and decision-
making. They looked at the function of socialization, the
transmission of social norms and expectations, and how
socioeconomic disparity might produce differing levels of
pressure and expectation.
Conceptual Framework

• The conceptual framework of societal pressure is a

theoretical framework that describes how external factors
in society can influence an individual's thoughts,
behaviors, and emotions. People are not solely
accountable for their decisions and behaviors, according
to this concept, but are impacted by the norms, values,
and expectations of the society in which they live.
• Frame 1 pertains to gathering the demographic information of
the interviewees, specifically their age and gender, which is
essential in conducting interviews.
• Additionally, it also includes two factors that affect how
teenagers respond to societal pressure: their level of
sociability and confidence.
• Frame 2 outlines the procedures involved in conducting the
research, which include in-depth interviews, organizing
respondents, and interpreting data to understand their
perspectives on the topic.
• Frame 3 will focus on exploring the effects of societal
pressure on teenagers.

• This study is supported by the theory of Media Exposure.

Studies that look at how exposure to cues in mass media
(television, cinema, or print advertising) influences
viewers' attitudes and intentions concerning health
behaviors are a recent topic in social influence theory.
With a focus on teenagers, there is growing evidence that
tobacco promotion and marketing methods might impact
adolescent behavior by portraying smoking as appealing
and perhaps weight-reducing (Pierce et al, 1994).
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to understand the influence of societal
pressure on teenagers in Barangay Malinta, as well as the
meaning, potential methods, and perspectives of this issue
among teenagers in Barangay Malinta. This study will aid
many individuals and future scholars in gathering data on
societal pressure:
1.What is the demographic profile of the respondents?
1.1Age
1.2Gender
2.How does Societal Pressure affect the Teenagers in
Barangay Malinta in terms of ?
• 2.1Fear of Judgement
• 2.2Peer Pressure
• 2.3Influence of Media
• 2.4Social Expectations
• 3.What are the possible strategies on how to avoid the
Societal Pressure towards Teenagers?
• 4.As a Teenager, what are your perceptions about
Societal Pressure here in Barangay Malinta?
Foreign Literature

• According to Black (2002), peer groups provide a

discussion board in which teenagers construct and
reconstruct their identities.Castrogiovanni (2002) stated
that at no different level of improvement is one’s feel of
identity so volatile. A peer-labeling process may be
contributing to the construction of nice identities for a few
teens however negative identities for others (Downs &
Rose, 1991). Alas, participants of groups may additionally
take delivery of negative labels, incorporate them into
their identification, and through the manner of secondary
deviance, growth stages of deviant conduct.
Foreign Studies

•  Our study evaluated a preventative approach that seeks to

leverage peer influence through collaborative group-based
peer learning activities.
•   These activities brought together students from different
social groups and connected at-risk youth with low-risk
prosocial youth who may have a more positive social
influence. Disrupting homophobic processes in at-risk youth
may reduce social reinforcement for negative or antisocial
behavior and reduce the growth rate of criminal and
aggressive behavior over time.
• Group-based peer learning activities promote social
inclusion require teachers to create social conditions that
promote the reduction of stigma and prejudice among
students belonging to different social groups (Pettigrew,
1998 Pettigrew & Tropp, 2008).
• A key component of such a social situation is "positive
interdependence". This happens when an individual can
achieve a goal only if others in the group can also achieve it.
For example, a teacher may request one finished product
from the group (goal interdependence) or provide a reward
to the group if everyone exceeds a certain threshold (reward
interdependence).
Local Literature
• Exploring Filipino Teenagers' Perceptions of Social
Expectations in the Digital Age Caballero (2019) This study
investigates how social expectations have developed in the
digital era and how they influence Filipino adolescents'
behavior and attitudes. According to the study, social media
and other digital platforms can intensify societal pressures,
and interventions that enhance media literacy and critical
thinking abilities can help alleviate these pressures.
Local Studies
• The study found that peer pressure was a significant
predictor of risky sexual behavior among Filipino
adolescents, and that interventions targeting peer pressure
should be developed to promote safe sexual practices.
• The Influence of Peer Pressure on Adolescent Behavior in
the Philippines according to Kristine Joy Ramos (2018) .
• The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that
contribute to peer pressure among Filipino adolescents and
its influence on their behavior. The study discovered that
while peer pressure can be a powerful motivator for Filipino
adolescents, it can also lead to risky behavior and negative
Synthesis

• In conclusion, this review of related literature and studies

related to fear of judgement, peer pressure, influence
of the media and Social expectations aims to have
broader knowledge about the past studies that have been
conducted relating to the decision making of teenagers so
that it can be used as the framework of the current study
that we are conducting.
• We gathered information that is useful for our research
and we also knew a lot of things about our topic . We also
learned a lot about societal pressure and how it affects
teenagers like us. .
• We gathered information that is useful for our research and
we also knew a lot of things about our topic . We also
learned a lot about societal pressure and how it affects
teenagers like us.
• To summarize, all RRL or articles that we gathered those
past studies stated the different meanings of the four
factors and conclusion of teenagers towards those factors
first in fear of judgement.
• Lots of the results are about peer pressure because
most teenagers experience fear in judgement caused by
their friends next is peer pressure, peer pressure affect so
many teenagers specifically in terms of decision making.
• They think that if their friends are doing something,
they think that they should do that too. Third is influence
of media . Many people are very affected by social media.
• That affects their decisions too . Lastly, Social
expectations . In today's generation, people expect so much
that they think if a lot of people are doing what's
popular, they mindset is you should do it too.
Research Design

•   The study will use the descriptive method of research to

determine the impact of societal pressure towards the
decision making of the teenagers. According to
Kumar(2011) it is a study whose main focus is to give
description rather than examining relationships. It is used
to systematically describe a situation, problem or
phenomenon.
• Descriptive methods provide real facts that are connected
to existing conditions, characteristics and aspects of
phenomena. It is a wide variety of research methods in
investigating one or more variables.
Population Sampling

•  The method of random sampling will be used in this study

to choose the respondents. The survey, which was
administered to (10) male and (10) female youths in
Barangay Malinta Los Banos Laguna, was used to
compile all the data. Male and female ages vary from 15
to 19. This evaluation helps to determine how societal
pressure affects the teens' decision-making in Barangay
Malinta.
Research Instrument

•    The questionnaire will be used in this research. The

questionnaire is a list of thoughtfully crafted questions that
have been meticulously created for the teens of Barangay
Malinta, aged 15 to 19,and is designed to collect data and
information and determine the impact of the issue that has
been selected.
• Using a PowerPoint presentation as a visual assistance
during the defense is covered in the first section of the
questionnaire. The questionnaire that the responders will fill
out makes up the second component. Additionally, as we
conduct our interview, we will use a voice or video recorder
to capture the information the respondents will provide. We
will then type the respondents' responses based on the
recorder.
Research Procedure

• Creating the study's title was the first step in the research
process, and it was then given to the research consultant
for approval. The writing of the research proposal
occurred after the title proposal. It was submitted and
presented for an oral defense.
• The panel of experts' significant comments and
recommendations were documented to serve as a
direction for the investigation. After that, we set about
writing chapters 1, 2, and 3.
• While chapter 2 discusses the review of related literature
wherein the article exist year 2000 and above, chapter 1
discusses the problem, purpose, research question, and
conceptual and theoretical framework.
•  RRL also includes evidence and citations. So, chapter 3 is
what we're working on right now. The demographic and
sampling used in the study, the research equipment, and
finally, the research procedure.
• To guarantee the assurance, validity, and reliability of the
study, we will formally ask the barangay officials and Mrs.
Lorelynne D. Hilario, the research adviser, for permission to
conduct the study in Malinta Los  Baños.
