festival in Cambodia
 Celebrate for 15 days
 Celebrate annually
 Related to : Boun Khao Padap Din (in Laos), Mataka dānēs (in Sri Lanka), Sat Thai
 (in Thailand), Ghost Festival (in China), Tết Trung Nguyên (in Vietnam) Obon (in
Japan) and Baekjung (in Korea)

Pchum Ben Festival is celebrated
by Cambodian people. And It is a
traditional way for Cambodian
people to celebrate it.

- When do Cambodian celebrate it?
The celebrations is on the 15th day of the tenth month in the 
Khmer calendar(Pheak Tro But ភទ្របទ)
In 2022, Pa'chum Bun began on September 11 and ended on
September 25.
In 2021, began on 22nd September and ended on 6th October.
In 2020, Began on 3rd September and ended on 17th September.

- Where do they celebrate it?
On Pchum Ben’s days, people go to the pagodas and bring the foods
to offer to the monks.
Pchum Ben Festival is celebrated in every pagodas around Cambodia.

- How do people do it?
- Bos Bay Ben from first day of the festival until fifteenth
day
- Bring food to the pagoda
- Offering food to the monks
- 14 days of Pchum Ben are called Dak Ben or Kan Ben
- During Pchum Ben’s day, people go at least 3 pagodas
- Bring the food before 11:00 AM(Monk will not eat after
12:00PM)
- Early morning, around 4:00AM, people prepare small
balls of rice(BAY BEN) to Bos Bay Ben

- Remind people to remember their
ancestors who passed away
- Showing high respect to religion
- Traditional festival
- Dedicate food and merits to
ancestors’ spirit

-Why do Cambodian celebrate it?

- Because it mainly to dedicate merits and bless to dead


spirits(especially ancestors’ spirit)
- People believed that dedicate merits and go to pagodas
could release them from hell
- Get what they wish for
