Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Word is a widely used commercial
word processor designed by Microsoft.
Microsoft Word is a component of the
Microsoft Office
• Microsoft Word was initially launched in 1983,
and has since been revised numerous times.
• Microsoft Word is often called simply Word or
MS Word
What is MS Word Used For?

• Used to make professional-quality documents, letters,


reports, etc.,
• It has advanced features which allow you to format
and edit your files and documents in the best possible
way. 
• Where to find MS Word on your personal computer?
• Follow these simple steps to open MS Word on your
personal computer:
• Start → All Programs → MS Office → MS Word.
How to open MS Word?

• Step 1: Type Ms Word in the search bar.


• Or
• Start the computer
• You will see the screen (Desktop)
• Right Click through your mouse on test top
• A New bar will appear on the desktop
• At 10th # of Bar is NEW
• Click on new, there appears another bar
• click on Microsoft word
Step 2: Select Ms Word application
Step 3: Select a blank document
and press create button.
• Then you will get a window like in the image
below where you can write your content and
perform different types of operations on that
content, like font type, style, bold, italic, etc.
You can also add images, tables, charts to your
document.
• To create an MS Word doc, follow the steps
mentioned above to open Microsoft Word.
Then once the program is open, click on “File”
followed by “New”. This opens a new doc
where something new can be created.
• FILE : Save, Save as, Open, Close, Information,
recent, new, Print, Save and send, Help,
Option, Exits
Save the document
• Make a folder in D Drive
• And save it in this your new document
• Information: Permission, Prepare for sharing,
Versions
• 1. Permissions (a) Mark as final and make it
only read able (b) Password © Restrict editing,
(d)
• Insert
• Tables, shapes, images, charts, graphs, header, footer,
page number, etc. can all be entered in the document.
They are included in the “Insert” category.
• Design
• The template or the design in which you want your
document to be created can be selected under the
Design tab. Choosing an appropriate tab will enhance
the appearance of your document.
• Page Layout
• Under the Page Layout tab comes options like margins,
orientation, columns, lines, indentation, spacing, etc. 
• References
• This tab is the most useful for those who are creating a thesis
or writing books or lengthy documents. Options like citation,
footnote, table of contents, caption, bibliography, etc. can be
found under this tab.
• Review
• Spell check, grammar, Thesaurus, word count, language,
translation, comments, etc. can all be tracked under the
review tab. This acts as an advantage for those who get their
documents reviewed on MS Word.
• Apart from all the above-mentioned features, the page can be
set in different views and layouts, which can be added and
optimised using the View tab on the Word document. Margins
and scales are also available for the benefit of the users. 
What is Thesaurus in MS Word?
• The Thesaurus is a software tool used in the
MS Word that helps you find synonyms and
antonyms for the selected word.
• Where is the AutoCorrect option in MS Word?
In your MS Word doc, go to File > Help >
Options > Proofing and click on AutoCorrect
Options. On the AutoCorrect tab, tick mark the
box saying Replace text as you type.
What is the use of the AutoCorrect feature?

• AutoCorrect feature can be used to correct


typos, misspelled words, and sentence casing
errors. Also, it automatically inserts symbols
and other text wherever required.
• You can correct through mouse/ keyboard also
• Red line > go to Control Tab on your right
side> click on the tab> show you some options
What are 20 MS Word shortcut keys?
• Ctrl + A: Select all contents of the page
• Ctrl + B: Bold highlighted selection
• Ctrl + C: Copy selected text
• Ctrl + X: Cut selected text
• Ctrl + N: Open new/blank document
• Ctrl + P: Open the print window
• Ctrl + I: Italicise highlighted selection
• Ctrl + U: Underline highlighted selection
• Ctrl + V: Paste
• Ctrl + Y: Redo the last action performed
What are 20 MS Word shortcut keys?
• Ctrl + Z: Undo last action
• Ctrl + G: Find and replace options
• F1: Open help
• F7: Spell check selected text and/or document
• F12: Save as
• Ctrl + S: Save
• Ctrl + W: Close document
• Alt + Shift + D: Insert the current date
• Alt + Shift + T: Insert the current time
• Ctrl + Backspace: Delete word to the left of the cursor
