Local History and Governace of Fuentes
Long before, Barangay Fuentes was named Datag (Plain). Later, the natives,
Namely: Bagani, Duglom, Mansaka, Teniente Ganap, Lintoan, Baladiama,
Baltazar, Antoan, Mabiscay, Catog, Canuto, and Dangansina came. They Name
this Barangay as Kiyamkyaman (sapa or river)

After the American-Spanish war, a certain American Major Charles Baker

arrived and occupied some of the lands. Even though, he was not part of the
native he used to defend them. He introduced civilization, cured illnesses and
educated the native. He also introduced some reforms and uplifted like cutting
hair. Those who refused to follow decided to transfer to some other locations.

Baker and his group then subdivided the lands distributed to them to
inhabitants. When the declaration of rights arrived, the natives refused to pay
taxes and such refusal has caused their forced eviction from the area.
During the period 1925 to 1950, the land was leased from the
Government for 25 years. In the past, Barangay Fuentes was
known as Barangay for lease. In 1949, a year before the
expiration of the lease contract, the group of Dela Cerna,
Alcantara and Perez submitted a petition to the court for the
return of the lands to the occupants.

The petitioners then hired Atty. Proculo Fuentes Sr., as

their lawyer. In 1966, the Supreme Court ruling came in favor
of the petitioners. In 1966 up to 1968, the petitioners have been
discussing, and their decided to separate Fuentes from
Barangay Tambongon.
On June 21, 1969, Barangay Fuentes was created as a regular
barangay. By the virtue of Republic act 5590 it was named
after Atty. Proculo Fuentes Sr.

Santiago Alcaria, Bartolome Della Cerna, Esteban Perez and

Diosto Bacus were the people who extended extra efforts to
ensure the said separation.
