• Any hardware component that allows user

to enter data, programs, commands, and
user responses into a computer.

PROCESSING DEVICE

• Processing devices in a computer are

responsible for controlling the storage and
retrieval of information.

• The information is processed by the

computer processor (CPU), which performs
data calculations, data comparisons, and
data copying with the information from the
processing devices.

• The CPU then saves that information to

the computer memory (RAM).

STORAGE DEVICE

• A storage device is any computing

hardware that is used for storing, porting
and extracting data files and objects.

• It can hold and store information both

temporarily and permanently, and can be
internal or external to a computer, server
or any similar computing device.

PRIMARY STORAGE DEVICE

• Primary storage is the main memory in a

computer.

• It stores data and programs that can be

accessed directly by the processor.

Page 14
• There are two types of primary storage
which are RAM (Random-Access Memory)
and ROM (Read-Only Memory).

• RAM is installed inside computers. RAM is

also known as a working memory.

SECONDARY STORAGE
DEVICE
• Storage devices hold data, even when the
computer is turned off.

• Compared with memory, offers the

advantages of nonvolatility, greater
capacity, and greater economy

Page 16
• The hardware that writes data to or reads
data from a storage medium is called a
storage device.

• A floppy disk drive and hard drive is a

storage device.

• Two primary storage technologies are
magnetic and optical.
