The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

(CEFR) is an international standard for describing language

ability. This makes it easy for teachers, employers, educational
institutions and learners, to see the level of different
qualifications to other exams in their country.

standard language if they are
about topics with which they
are familiar, whether in work,
study or leisure contexts.
•They can cope with most of
the situations that might arise
on a trip to areas where the
language is used.
•They are ble to produce
simple, coherent texts about
topics with which they are
familiar or in which they have
a personal interest.
•They can describe
experiences, events, wishes
and aspirations, as well as
briefly justifying opinions or
explaining plans.
UPPER-
intermediate
•They understand the main
ideas of complex text on
both concrete and abstract
topics, including technical
discussions in their field of
specialization.
•They interact with a degree
of fluency and spontaneity
that makes regular
interaction with native
speakers quite possible
without strain for either
party.
•They can produce clear,
detailed text on a wide range
of subjects and explain a
viewpoint on a topical issue
giving the advantages and
disadvantages of various
options.
ADVANCED
•They can understand a wide
range of more demanding,
longer texts, and recognise
implicit meaning in them.
•They can express themselves
fluently and spontaneously
without much obvious
searching for the right
expression.
•They can use language
flexibly and effectively for
social, academic and
professional purposes.
• They are able to produce
clear, well-structured,
detailed text on complex
subjects, showing correct use
of organisational patterns,
connectors and cohesive
devices.
