Introduction to Metal Forming
• Metal forming can be defined as a process in which the desired size
and shape are obtained
• Through the deformation of metal plastically under the action of
externally applied forces.
• The Volume of the metal of the product remains constant before and
after forming process.

General classification of the metal forming process.

GAPS IN LITERATURE

• Deformation twinning is not fully known yet

• Quantification of twin fraction is difficult

• Twinning in tensile mode is not studied extensively

• Thus, impact of tensile twins is less known

• Study of dynamic recrystallization mechanisms in Ti alloys is incomplete

• Plastic instabilities and adiabatic shear banding is work in progress

• Softening due to thermal effect or dynamic recrystallization

• Measurement of temperature rise is difficult
