Roles & Responsibilities

of the DGL/ADGL
The DGL/ADGL
1. They assume responsibility for the overall
care of each participant in their group.
2. They personally oversee and bring to issue
each person’s relationship and
commitment to Jesus.
3. They can tailor the every-after talk
discussion to meet the needs of their
group.
5 AREAS:
1. To contribute life to the program
a. DGL/ADGLs are to participate
enthusiastically
in prayer and song
b. Be joyful at all times
c. Be warm and friendly, even if people are
a bit stiff at first. People will warm
up as we warm up to them. Take special
care to establish an atmosphere of love
and interest in the group.
d. Establish a relaxed atmosphere. Don’t be overly
serious but maintain control of the situation.
e. Inspire confidence by knowing exactly what is
expected of you.
f. Remember that some of the participants have
never been in this type of discussion groups.
Please make sure that they understand clearly
what is said when you are giving instructions.
g. Study well the subject of the talk beforehand so
explanations can be made when required.
h. Be interested and listen attentively to the
talks. Please take down notes on any
highlights of the talk proper. You can start
teaching them by setting good examples.
i. Develop unity among your group. This can
be done by setting up prayer partners early.
j. Remember the names accurately and take
note of some important details of your
members (name of spouse, their children,
where they work, their hobbies and sports,
etc). By doing this, you have already
communicated a great amount of concern for
them.
2. To commit your time to the program
• Please come to each session promptly or
earlier than your members so that there will
be enough time for you to greet them as they
come in and to get to know them.
• Please stay after the session for the team
meeting.
• Contact those who were absent in the last
session. Show them you are concerned.
• Schedule “make-up” sessions for those who
were absent and ensure that these are done
immediately within the week after the session
missed. The purpose of the “make-up”
session is to ensure that your member
understands the talk he or she missed and
give them an opportunity to discuss the same
• All “make-up” sessions must be completed
before the Baptism session.
• Call, text, send an e-mail or fax your group 3
or 4 days before the next session to remind
them of the forthcoming session.
• Schedule and conduct the one-on-one
dialogue meetings after the 4th talk
(RECEIVING JESUS IN FAITH).
3. To be spiritually prepared
• Please pray for the participants. Intercede for
them and the service team and in particular,
your own group.
• You may need to fast or abstain from your
favorite vice (smoking, etc) when the need
arises. This especially true if you encounter
personal or family problems as well as
problems of your members.
• Go to Mass as often as possible and if
necessary, go to confession.
4. To lead during the discussion period
every after talk.
• Study the discussion guide of the talk ahead
of time and plan how you will handle your
discussion period. Budget the time allowed
among you members, not between you and
the ADGL.
• Start and end the discussion with a prayer.
• Stay within the topic of the talk
• Do not allow anyone to dominate the
discussion.
• Be firm and gentle in the handling of
situations.
• Do not allow impertinent questions or
theological questions that need long
explanations. Set aside long explanations
until after the session is over.
• Do not be intimidated by anyone, but be
prudent about it.
• Especially during the 1st and 2nd talk, initiate
discussion by sharing your experiences or
views.
• Do not out-talk or out-share the participants.
You only share to get them involved. The
idea is to get them involved and come out of
their shell.
• As you listen to the talk, discern which points
need to be taken up or repeated during the
discussion period.
• Exhort the members to come on time.
• If you learn of a MORAL problem involving
one of your members, refer the matter
immediately to your TEAM LEADER IN
PRIVATE! These are not be to discuss during
the after-session team meeting.
• Everything that is discussed or may surface
at any time during the CFL must be kept in
strict confidence.
• Do not compare notes with your spouse on
confidential matters of your group.
• Beginning with the 1st group discussion,
prepare a confidential profile of each member
– their strengths and their weaknesses. You
can affirm these during the one-on-one and
will greatly help you know what to pray for
during baptism.
• Begin your discussion on time and end on
time.
5. To discipline a participant or the whole
group
• Lead the group. Do not allow the group to
lead you.
• Do not allow pockets of conversation, texting
or call on the cell phone while the talks are
going on or while on of them is sharing
during the discussion period.
• Correct any wrong speech:
• Gossips,
• Slander,
• Negative humor or
• Ridiculing someone or
• Ridiculing someone’s defect, mistakes or
provincial intonations, accents or pronunciations.
• When there is need to correct someone for a
serious indiscretion, avoid doing it publicly.
Use prudence and discretion and do it
privately.
