WHAT IS NANO?

The word nano comes from GREEK and it means “very small”
• 1nm or 0.000000001m
•  500000 times smaller than a pen Line
• 50000 times smaller than hair
• 100 times smaller than a DNA module
INTRODUCTION
• The next industrial revolution will be nanotechnology. Nanotechnology was first
Introduced in the famous lecture of Nobel Laureate Richard P. Feynman, “There’s
Plenty of Room at the Bottom,” given in 1959 at the California Institute of Technology
• Nanotechnology deals with the production and application of physical, chemical and
biological systems at scales ranging from a few nanometers to submicron dimensions
• Nanotechnology also involves the investigation of matter to Individual atoms.
APPLICATIONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

Nanotechnology is helping to considerably improve, even revolutionize, many

technology and industry sectors: information technology, homeland security,
medicine, transportation, energy, food safety, and environmental science,
among many others.
Using nanotechnology, materials can effectively be made stronger, lighter,
more durable, more reactive, more sieve-like, or better electrical conductors,
among many other traits.
NANOTECHNOLOGY AND CHANGE

Nanotechnology has changed and will continue to change our

vision, expectations and abilities to control the materials world. These
developments will definitely affect construction and construction materials.
• Recent major achievements include the ability to observe structure at
itsatomic level and measure the strength and hardness of microscopic and
nanoscopic phases of composite materials.
ADVANTAGES OF NANOTECHNOLOGY
• Nanotechnology offers the potential for new and faster kinds of computers, more efficient power
sources and life-saving medical treatments
• Nanotechnology will make solar power more economical by reducing the cost of constructing solar
panels.
• Energy storage devices will become more efficient as a result. Nanotechnology will also open up new
methods of generating and storing energy.
• Surgeries could become much faster and more accurate. Injuries could be repaired cell-by-cell.

EXAMPLES OF NANOTECHNOLGY
Nanotechnology and nanomaterials can be applied in all kinds of industrial sectors. They are usually found
in these areas usually found in these areas:
• Electroincs
• Energy
• Biomedicine
• Environment
• Textile
