Project Background
Energy harvesting is by no means a new idea, Hydroelectricity or hydroelectric power, is
electricity produced from hydropower. Hydropower has been used since ancient times to
grind flour and perform other tasks. Hydropower has been used since ancient times to
grind flour and perform other tasks.

3
The Problem

Now our days energy is the basis of every operation, from our phones to laptops, television, cars,
homes, industries, schools, churches, organizations they all depend on electrical energy.

But still yet Hydro-Power systems are system which have been existing for
the past decades , Energy is a huge challenge in most African countries,.

4
Rainfall is a clean energy source which is a huge
benefit to the environment. It is a great alternative to
fossil fuel as it reduces the carbon footprint on the
planet as well as greenhouse gasses.

P = 𝜌 ∗ 𝑄∗ ℎ ∗ g
𝑃shaft= 𝜌𝑄𝑈 * (𝑈−𝑉) * (1−𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝛽)
𝐸= 𝑃 ∗ 𝑡

Efficiency = Pout / Pin * 100

10
Calculated value

• Maximum Actual Output Voltage achieved= 6.8V

• Maximum Actual Current Output achieved = 0.38A

• Maximum Actual Power Output achieved = V * I = 2.6 W

• Minimum Theoretical Power Output = 20.12W

11
Challenges Faced
• High resistance from the turbine to the
generator

• The size of the motor greatly affects the

power output, so a higher generator will
produce better results.

• The amount of rain fall greatly affects the

output power, the higher the rainfall the
higher the output power.

12
Future Works

• Replacing the turbine with a much smoother

turbine which helps reduce friction and
increase efficiency

• Using a much stronger motor to increase the

power out put

• Replacing the gears with a smoother gear to

reduce friction and equally increase efficiency
