Inspection to Kassel

 Locomotive Series BR 186 was in maintenance at


Kassel Location.

 Aim: To inspect the locomotive from top to bottom


and following were the technical problems.

 The information contains: speed, configuration, construction year.

Analysis of Offers

Analysis of Offers
 Most important task for analysis of offers for
different scopes.
 Based on service, payment terms , offer
validity, warranty the offer is decided for the
respective supplier.
 This process can take upto a week to 2 weeks
for analysis.
 Factor of negotiation is most important during
this process. After arrival of the offers,
negotiation also takes place for better option.

Other most important thing in the offer analysis is


NRC and RC which is Non recurring cost and
recurring cost.

 Recurring Cost is repetitive cost and vary with


years.
 Non Recurring Cost is one time initial payment
for installation or initialization of service.

 The most important task of understanding
working of EMS.
 Standard used for EMS is EN50463.

 The main five functioning of EMS is:


Voltage Measurement Function, Current
Measurement Function, Energy
Calculation Function, Data Handling
System and Communication Functions.

 Analysis of the EN50463 standards was


also the part of the task and it consist of 5
parts.

 Aim: to understand the components of locomotive in
person.
 4 days workshop at Krefeld location.
 Work with technicians and skilled workers.
 Practical exposure for work.
 Day 1: Understanding the coverings on the
locomotive surface.
 Day 2: The Bogie frame and the components
attached to it.
 Day 3: Inside the locomotive and understanding
components configuration with respect to country
and company.
 Day 4: Driver’s cabin and Wheel profile
measurement.

Locomotive Components
Buchholz Relay

 Buchholz relay is a safety device used in the


locomotive.
 It make sure the safety of the device from malfunction
due to short circuit.
 This is fitted on the transformers and reactors.
 It is also called fuse relay and also protects the main
circuit.
 Malfunction in the circuit will create an alarm and the
driver is going to be alert with the malfunctioning in the
cabin.
 If the alarm is avoided then the circuit is going to Buchholz Relay

Train Protection System

Train Protection System

 Train Protection System ensures the speed of


the train which is compatible with speed
allowed by signalling.
 The figure depicts the LZB and PZB train
protection system of Germany.
 Generally in the LZB receiver and sender are
located in underneath the locomotive’s front
section. There are two LZB receiver and
sender component under the locomotive.
 Additionally, other countries Train protection
system devices are installed in the locomotive.

Placement of Components inside locomotive


 Aim: Understanding the interior portion of the
locomotive especially the placement of the
components inside the Locomotives.
 This includes the placement of Batteries,
Transformers, EMS, Compressor, Auxiliary
system and more.
 Outcome: There are two types of placement of
components in locomotives:
 1. Parallel Way: Where components are
placed opposite to each other and the space is
straight in between it.
 2. C Section type: In this the components are
places in c section way with connects the two
drivers cabin.
 This depends upon the company configuration.

 Objective: Measuring Wheel
profile.
 During maintenance of
locomotives, it was a crucial
factor of measuring the wheel
profile.
 The image on right describes
the readings of the
measurement.
 Calipri device was used in
measuring the data and it
starts beeping which shows
the correct handling of the
device.
