WHAT IS IT?
➤ It is jaundice caused by excessive breakdown of red blood cell
causing a distinct increase of unconjugated billirubin released by
destroyed RBC
ETIOLOGY
➤ Blood transfusion incompatibility.Erythroblastosis fetalis
➤ Glucose 6 phosphate deficiency
➤ Thalessemia
➤ Gillbert syndrome

➤ Malaria
➤ Poison (toxin, venom etc.)
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
➤ Jaundice
➤ Acholuria
➤ Dark brown stool
➤ itchiness
➤ Fever, nausea , vomitting, dizziness
LABORATORY INVESTIGATION
➤ Common blood analysis : hypochromic anemia
➤ Biochemical blood analysis: Unconjugated billirubin increase
➤ Urine analysis : urobilinogen
➤ Liver function test
TREATMENT
➤ Based on underlying causes

➤ Thalassemia -blood transfusion, bone marrow transplantation


➤ Malaria- anti malarial drug
➤ Iron supplementation
➤ Vitamin therapy
➤ Phototherapy
