Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a miliary operation against Ukraine on February 24.
The forces invaded Ukraine from several directions and this is being seen as the beginning of war
in Europe over Russia’s demands for an end to NATO’s eastward expansion. Russia’s invasion
began with dozens of missiles strikes all over Ukraine before dawn on 24 February 2022. Russian
troops moved in quickly and within a few weeks were in control of large areas of Ukraine. They
had advanced to the suburbs of Kyiv and controlled much of the north -east of the country around
Sumy.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the Russia-Ukraine War has had profound and wide-ranging consequences for both Russia and
Ukraine, as well as for the broader international community. The conflict has resulted in a severe humanitarian
crisis, with displacement, casualties, and human rights abuses. It has also fueled political instability within both
countries, leading to shifts in leadership and deepening divisions. The annexation of Crimea by Russia and the
ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine have altered the territorial integrity of Ukraine and strained international
relations.
Economically, Ukraine has suffered significant setbacks, including a decline in GDP, loss of industrial output,
and currency devaluation, while Russia has faced sanctions from Western countries. Geopolitically, the war has
heightened tensions between Russia and the West, prompting the imposition of sanctions and a reassessment of
security dynamics in Europe. Cyber warfare and disinformation campaigns have been employed, raising
concerns about the manipulation of public opinion and the vulnerability of states to hybrid warfare tactics.
