LEADERSHIP AND

SPEAKING:
BE CREDIBLE
• The year of planning before you take office is crucial to achieving the objectives you set out for
your club. As president-elect, you work with your assistant governor and incoming leadership
team to set annual goals that support your club’s strategic plan. In this year you should:
• Take online courses for club president in the Learning Center
• Assess your club’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks in order to set goals
• Develop an action plan for your annual goals, which support long-term achievements
• Appoint committee chairs
• Ensure continuity in leadership and service projects
• Attend presidents-elect training seminar
• Attend district training assembly
D E L E G AT E
• Utilize the talents and backgrounds of members when forming a committee.
Usually the unofficial leader is the one with some experience in the program or
project.
PICK YOUR TEAM
• Include both new and more experienced members. Embracing diversity fosters
new ideas and approaches to conducting business. Let go of assumptions (and, in
some cases, unfair reputations) about fellow club members.
FIND A MENTOR
• Every new Rotarian should have a mentor.
• The purpose of mentoring is to tap into the existing knowledge,
skills, and experience of senior or high performing members and
transfer these skills to newer or less experienced members in order to
advance their personal and professional development.
• A mentor will share knowledge, skills, and life experience to guide
the new member; it is a journey of shared discovery.
