Interference & coefficient of coincidence
• Very often the observed frequency of the double crossovers is not the same as
the expected frequency.
• The difference in the frequencies depends on the closeness of the loci
involved, i.e. the closer the loci, the larger the difference & the farther apart
they are, the smaller the difference.
• This relationship happens because the occurrence of a crossover in one region
tends to prevent or interfere w/ the formation of another crossover close to it.
So the distance between genes A and C is 17.9 cM
[100*((81+85+5+8)/1000)], and the distance
between C and B is 7.0 cM [100*((27+30+5+8)/1000)].

Most often, interference values fall between 0 and 1. Values less than one
indicate that interference is occurring in this region of the chromosome.
