Semester - 1

Course – 1 (Planning Theories and Techniques) Understanding -

o Planning Theories and Techniques course is more


concerned with how to understand the nature of
planning and the role of the planner, than
prescribing guidelines for how to do planning.

o Planning theory offers a framework for thinking


about planning and a set of lenses for looking at
planning practice, which seek to raise our
awareness of their own theory of planning and help
us reflect on our own values.

o Planning theory is intended to help us to navigate


the complexities of planning practice by developing
our sensitivities to particular issues and values,
which can offer a helpful point of departure when
planners have to take difficult decisions.

Course – 2 (Urban & Regional Planning Studio-I) Understanding -

o As an urban planner we will have to engage to


ensure that the work should be done properly,
from the way traffic flows to new housing
complexes, and from green areas to a new
shopping district.

o Urban planners have a wide range of


responsibilities, and their work has an enormous
impact on a great number of people. In 2019,
more than four billion people lived in urban
areas, and by 2050, it's predicted that more than
two-thirds of the world's population will do so.

o When urban planning is done correctly, it can


improve people's quality of life, lower carbon

Understanding -
1) Planters Made of Plastic Bottles:

o Gardening by waste material is an eco-friendly and cost-


effective way to create a beautiful garden while reducing
waste.

o The ubiquitous plastic water bottle is another item that is


frequently in excess; there must be a lot of bottles in every
home. Why not break them up and use them as planters
rather than throwing them out like usual? Additionally, you
can decorate them by painting, carving, and other means.
Course – 4 (Technical Report Writing Tools) Understanding -

o A technical report summary (or abstract) should include


a brief overview of our investigation, outcomes and
recommendations.

o It must include all the key information our reader needs


to make a decision, without them having to read our
full report.

o We should avoid shortcuts and describe our content


fully.

o A technical report represents a well-structured, compact


and factual piece of information. It’s a single document
that includes all the project data and information, which
is written in a consistent, easy-to-understand format.

Course –5 (Urban Transport Planning) Understanding -

o Transport planning is highly essential in shaping cities,


enabling economic activities, promoting community
interaction, and enhancing quality of life. It is also
essential for sustainable development and ensuring safe
accessibility at various levels for all individuals.

o Transport Planning is a field involved with the


operation, provision and management of facilities and
services for the modes of transport to achieve safer,
faster, comfortable, convenient, economical and
environment-friendly movement of people and goods. It
is a prediction of usage demand in future travel and to
ensure all the necessary facilities and services to cater to
that demand.

Course –6 (Smart Sustainable Cities) Understanding -

o A sustainable city using smart technology can


provide a high quality of life for citizens, reduce
overall costs, and reduce infrastructure costs. Using
these technologies in the planning and design of a
city can also improve the quality of life for residents
and enhance the environment.

o The main goal of a smart city is to optimise city


functions and promote economic growth while also
improving the quality of life for citizens by using
smart technologies and data analysis.

Course –7 (Infrastructure Planning) Understanding -
o This course gives the understanding of infrastructure
consists of drinking water, sanitation, sewage
systems, electricity and gas distribution, urban
transport, primary health services, and
environmental regulation.

o Infrastructure planning is an important subject


because it involves the design, construction, and
management of the physical and organizational
structures that are necessary for the functioning of a
society.

o Quality of life: Infrastructure planning helps to


improve the quality of life for people by providing
essential services such as safe drinking water,
reliable transportation, and energy systems.

Course –1 (Regional Planning: Theory and Practice) Understanding -


o Planning Theory & Practice provides an international focus
for the development of theory and practice in spatial
planning and a forum to promote the policy dimensions of
space and place.

o Developing the theoretical and methodological foundations


of planning theory and practice, as well as urban studies
more generally.

o Developing the contributions of the planning field to social


science, both analytically and normatively.

o Examining policy development in particular fields such as


housing, regeneration, transport, urban design, participatory
practice, diversity and climate change.
Course – 2 (Urban & Regional Planning Studio- Understanding -
II) o Sufficient urban planning allows cities to deal with
potential challenges quickly and more easily
through anticipation and the utilisation of thought-
out spatial patterns and infrastructure. This means
that in a properly planned city, all areas will be
made as efficient as possible and accessible for
maintenance.

o A complete, consistent strategy can make life in


urban areas almost perfect, from economic issues to
social and environmental problems to safety and
wellbeing. On the other side, a city can become
uninhabitable if there are no such preparations in
place.

Understanding -

o This Course gives the understanding for a wide


range of purposes, including planning, policy
making, and decision making.

o It is a useful tool for understanding the unique

for identifying opportunities and challenges in that
region.

Course –8 (Remote Sensing and GIS in Planning) Understanding -

o The course is intended to engage us to create


awareness about Remote Sensing Technology & its
use for the study of mother planet Earth and its
environment through informative lectures and
demonstration.

o Remote sensing and GIS technology are potential


tools to understand the vast environment. Exposing
the knowledge of satellite data utilization via GIS
and image processing software in environmental
science has a great scope as it would help the
students to understand the importance of remote
sensing and then in career decision making
