Welcome
Brandon University is working hard to keep everyone as safe as possible, and you as a new
employee play an integral role in helping to keep yourself and others safe as well.

Internal Responsibility System
Workplace Safety & Health is a joint responsibility of every member of
the Brandon University campus. Management, staff, and students all
have a role to play.
 Reporting hazards or correcting hazards if you are able
 Reporting incidents and injuries
 Talking to your Supervisor / Manager / Dean about concerns
 Completing safety and health related training
 Conducting inspections
Worker Responsibilities
Workers have a responsibility to:
Take reasonable care to protect themselves and others who
may be affected by their actions or omissions.
Make proper use of safety equipment, clothing, and devices.
Cooperate with the Workplace Safety and Health Committee
and WSH Advisor.
Cooperate with other persons regarding workplace safety
and health matters.
Supervisor Responsibilities
Supervisors must:

Take all precautions necessary to protect the safety and health of a worker
(student) under his or her supervision
Advise a worker (student) under his or her supervision of all known or
reasonably foreseeable risks to safety and health in the area where the
work is performing work.
Ensure the workers (students) uses all devices and safety equipment
provided.
Employer Responsibilities
Employers have a responsibility to:
Do everything they can to make the workplace, equipment, tools and
systems safe and healthy.
Make sure everyone understands safety risks in the workplace and how to
avoid them.
Hire well-trained supervisors.
Consult and cooperate with the Workplace Safety and Health Committee and
other persons exercising a duty imposed by the Manitoba Workplace Health
and Safety Act.

 See icy conditions, sprinkle extra ice melt/gravel from the
yellow bins
Reporting hazards, incidents, and injuries
Conducting or participating in WSH Inspections

Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Being a part of the BU Workplace Safety & Health Committee
The Right To Protection From Reprisal
To encourage reporting of incidents and injuries, all workers are
protected from the employer and, where applicable, unions from
negative consequences as a result of bringing forward workplace safety
and health concerns or complaints.
Right to Refuse
WHMIS 2015 / GHS
The Manitoba Workplace Safety and
Health Act and Regulation states
that all employees must be trained
in WHMIS.
WHMIS training is available via
Moodle and through MB Safe Work.
The United Nations has created the
new Global Harmonized System and
Canada’s adaptation of this is called
WHMIS 2015.

First Aid Kits and Automatic External Defibrillators
Brandon University has multiple first aid kits
in various locations across campus.
In addition to the First Aid Kits, there are 16
Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) on
campus.
Trained first aid staff members names are
posted on Workplace Safety & Health bulletin
boards.
Visit the Campus Safety webpage for specific
locations of both First Aid Kits and AEDs.
Reporting a Hazard
A hazard is an event of physical
condition that has the potential
to cause injuries, property
damage or damage to the
environment.

All completed hazard reports


must be sent to
busafety@brandonu.ca for
investigation and follow-up.
Reporting an Incident
An incident can be defined as an
occurrence, condition or situation
arising in the course of work that
resulted in or could have resulted in
(near miss) injuries, illnesses, damage
to health or property.

Masks help prevent the spread of germs and viruses to you and others
 

Physical / Social Distancing 


Maintain two meters / six feet distance between yourself and others
As we continue to take  

measures to limit the spread of Hand Hygiene 


Covid 19 here on our campus, Regular hand washing with soap and water (at least 15 seconds) and use of
alcohol-based hand cleanser
there are several ways you can  

help to ensure your safety and Clean Surfaces

  Sick? Stay Home 


Stay home if you are sick or experiencing symptoms such as coughing or
sneezing

Vaccination
Every shot is a winning shot when you get vaccinated.

Review the emergency procedures manual
Most importantly, STAY SAFE!
