 Past perfect progressive tense
‫زـمانگــذشتهـ ک ـاـمـلجـاـری‬
Structure :
[+] Subject + had+ been + present participle + complement .
Ex: They had been studying English before 2019 .
[-] Subject + had + not +been +Present participle + complement .
EX: They had not been studying English before 2019.
[?] Had + subject +been +present participle + complement ?
EX: Had they been studying English before 2019 ?
[-?]Had+ subject+ not +been +present participle +complement ?
EX: Had they not been teaching English before 2019 ?
 Past perfect progressive tense
‫زـمانگــذشتهـ ک ـاـمـلجـاـری‬
1)Past perfect progressive tense emphasizes on the duration
of an action that was in progress before another ( action ) in
the past .
‫زمان گذشته کامل جاری تاکید باالی جریان عملرا نشان میدهد که در‬
‫گذشته قبل از یک عمل دیگردر جریان بوده باشد‬.
Ex: I had been waiting for my English teacher Before he
finished his class test . ( action)

2)Past perfect progressive tense emphasizes on the duration
of an action that was in progress before another ( Time ) in
the past .
‫زمان گذشته کامل جاری تاکید باالی جریان عملرا نشان میدهد که در‬
‫گذشته قبل از یک زمان یا وقت دیگردر جریان بوده باشد‬.
Ex: I had been teaching English before November 2018.

 Past perfect progressive tense

We use preposition of times (since and for ) in this case .
Since : shows starting point of an action .
For : shows the duration of an action
Ex: We had been talking on the phone since 11:00 pm.
Ex: we had been talking on the phone for 2 hours.
