INTRODUCTION

I Saurabh Avhad, graduate trainee working in T1SRU plant at Lupin ltd, Tarapur.
Solvent recovery is the process of extracting useful materials from waste or by-product
solvents generated during the manufacturing process.
There are quite a few methods of recovering solvents, including fractionation, azeotropic
distillation, and extractive distillation
I have come across several techniques of recovery process and equipment used for it.
OBJECTIVE

• To become a valuable asset for organization

• To pursue growth oriented career.
• To build strength, Teamwork spirit and self confidence
• To enhance technical knowledge.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE (GMP)

• Good manufacturing practices (GMP) are the practices required in order to conform to

the guidelines recommended by agencies that control the authorization and licensing of
the manufacture and sale of Pharmaceutical products
• Key components in GMP are Products and primary materials, Premises and equipment,
People and Processes etc.
T1 SRU

• Equipment details-
A) Reactor with columns: plant have 4 reactor with columns mainly used for flashing of
solvents. Products are withdraw in different cuts at different temperature. Mainly this
system is used for separation of DMF, TBA, IPA and methanol from DMF – water, TBA –
Water, IPA – Chloroform and metahnol pure streams
B) Reactors: There are 2 reactors used for flashing of PDA Ml and recovery of acetone +
mdc from SRML.
C) Columns: There are 6 columns in plant used for binary distillation, azeotropic distillation and extractive
distillation
1) Column 2001- used for separation of methanol from its aqueous phase by heating
This column utilzes for two streams Rifa- O and Rifa-S contains 20-23% methanol and 25- 30% methanol
respectively.
2) Column 2002- used for distillation of RMP MDC aqueous. It contains 2% MDC.
3) Column 1731- used for separation of IPA from IPA water binary mixture.
4) Column 1741- uesd for extractive distillation of Aceton + MDC, water is used as third component for extraction
of acetone from acetone MDC mixture.
5) Column 1601- used for separtion of acetone from acetone- water mixture by binary distillation process.
7) Column 2201- used for separation of azeotropic mixture of IPA + Chloroform.
8) LLEC- liquid – lquid extractive column is used for separation of IPA from chloroform by using water.
PLATES AND PACKING USED

• In column 2001 valve type trays along with random packings are used.
• Other columns are filled with Intallox metal tower packing. (IMTP)
• IMTP is a type of random packing provides high surface area for separation.
• Structured packings are used in column 1601, this are costlier than random packings and
are used to avoid channelling.
CONTROLLING SYSTEM

• Cascade controlling system: Ratio control system

SAFETY

• Personal Protective Equipment

• Fire Extinguisher
• Assembly point
• Manual call points
• Emergency siren alarm
