Objective: create a sound from different objects

Questions to ponder
1. How do sound produce?
2. What are the mediums used to create sound?
3. Why do sound differ from one medium another?
SOUND WAVES

AS CARRIERS OF ENERGY
SOUND WAVES
- are longitudinal waves created from a vibrating source.

- Mechanical waves, it means that it requires a medium to

propagate medium- is a substance or material that
carries the wave.
Speed of sounds is different in various materials

" In which medium do you think will sound travel the fastest?
Can you hear sound in the outer space?
Sound does not travel at
all in space.
The vacuum of outer
space has essentially zero
air.
Because sound is just
vibrating air, space has no
air to vibrate and
therefore no sound.
Characteristics of sound waves
PITCH- refers to the highness or lowness of the
sound.
-the frequency of the wave dictates the pitch of the
sound.
LOUDNESS - refers to how soft or how intense the
sound is.
- can be determined by the amplitude of the sound
waves.
Which do you think has the higher sound?

B
Which is more pleasant to the ear?

B
Loudness is also considered psychological sensation that
differs from diffirent people.
QUALITY/ TIMBRE - used in ddifferentiating two
different sounds that have the same pitch and
loudness.
The human ear can only sense sound within a frequency
range.
